“IT IS WRITTEN!”

 Matthew 4:1-4                    (ESV)

The Temptation of JESUS 

“[1] Then JESUS was led up by the SPIRIT into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. [2] And after fasting forty days and forty nights, HE was hungry. [3] And the tempter came and said to HIM, “If you are the SON of GOD, command these stones to become loaves of bread.” [4] But HE answered, ““IT IS WRITTEN”, 

    “‘Man shall not live by bread alone,

        but by every WORD that comes from the MOUTH of GOD.’””

A former professional athlete, reportedly worth over $500,000,000, was speaking of a lesson his father showed him during a tough time in the son’s career.  His father carried him to a homeless encampment and a father of a homeless family awoke from his tent to go look for a job for his family who was left behind in the tent!  His father told him that “this is pressure”!  

What humanity sees is generally put into the perspective of where we HAVE BEEN!  Making a lot of money has never been a high priority for me.  I would like to think that I would have assisted the less fortunate had I been more successful?  But my EYES might not have been OPENED to SEE the NEEDS that GOD has OPENED them to SEE as I have matured, physically as well as SPIRITUALLY??

The SON of GOD replied to “the tempter” in verse four above “IT IS WRITTEN”, not trying to formulate a response in HIS humanity.  JESUS KNEW SCRIPTURE because John 1:1 says “In the beginning was THE WORD, and the WORD was with GOD, and the WORD WAS GOD”!!!  Since JESUS was the WORD, HE had NO DOUBT about what THE WORD says!  HE KNEW!!!

If I KNEW the WORD more in depth I would NO DOUBT live more BOLDLY for HIM!!  When JESUS talked about “IT IS WRITTEN”, HE KNEW because HE WAS THE WORD!!!
