“TO ITS ROOTS!”

 Mark 11:20-25                    (ESV)

The Lesson from the Withered Fig Tree

“[20] As they passed by IN THE MORNING, they saw the fig tree withered away “TO ITS ROOTS”. [21] And Peter remembered and said to HIM, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree that you cursed has withered.” [22] And JESUS ANSWERED, “HAVE FAITH IN GOD.” [23] Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and DOES NOT DOUBT IN HIS HEART, but believes that what he says will come to pass, IT WILL BE DONE FOR HIM. [24] Therefore I tell you, whatever you ASK IN PRAYER, BELIEVE THAT YOU HAVE RECEIVED IT, and IT WILL BE YOURS. [25] And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your FATHER also WHO is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.””

It has been a minute or two since I expounded upon the same verses for multiple days, but I am LED to today!  In reading over the text for my precious post, I “noticed” the words “TO ITS ROOTS” at the end of verse twenty.  Those words made me SEE things more clearly than I previously had!!

Harvesting fruit from the FIG TREE was “out of season”, according to Mark 11:13.  It “surely” wasn’t expected to be yielding a bunker crop of figs to be consumed during its “out of season” period???  Yet JESUS saw that it was producing NO FRUIT, even when the season was already passed, HE “cursed” the tree AND IT WAS DEAD the next morning!  

However, humans ARE NOT the same as fruit trees and we are CALLED to be PRODUCING FRUIT as long as we are breathing the air provided by THE MASTER!  This LIFE is from JESUS, and we should REFLECT HIM “TO ITS ROOTS” until HE calls us HOME!!!
