“THE LORD HAS ASSIGNED!”
1 Corinthians 7:12-17 (ESV)
“12 To the rest I say (I, not the LORD) that if any brother has a wife who is an unbeliever, and she consents to live with him, he should not divorce her.
13 If any woman has a husband who is an unbeliever, and he consents to live with her, she should not divorce him.
14 For the unbelieving husband is made holy because of his wife, and the unbelieving wife is made holy because of her husband. Otherwise your children would be unclean, but as it is, they are holy.
15 But if the unbelieving partner separates, let it be so. In such cases the brother or sister is not enslaved. GOD HAS CALLED YOU TO PEACE.
16 For how do you know, wife, whether you will save your husband? Or how do you know, husband, whether you will save your wife?
17 ONLY LET EACH PERSON LEAD THE LIFE THAT “THE LORD HAS ASSIGNED” TO HIM, and to which GOD has called him. This is my rule in all the churches.”
Looking back on my life, I am able to SEE things that I am rather ashamed of, things that I am extremely embarrassed to have been a participant in. But I can also SEE where ALMIGHTY GOD was guiding and directing me into THE LIFE THAT “THE LORD HAS ASSIGNED” TO me. Probably the most glaring instance is meeting, and ultimately marrying, my wife. I’m not sure what she did wrong to be ASSIGNED to me, but GOD will reveal all when we get to Heaven!
A person with the upbringing I had might be a little disheartened by the path “THE LORD HAS ASSIGNED” to me, a single parent household with extremely limited resources, but also might also be a bit jealous because of the love and nurturing that I was afforded? Or the Brain Hemorrhage of 2007 might be something that people would want to avoid? But the lessons learned from that have been most beneficial in THE LIFE THAT “THE LORD HAS ASSIGNED” TO me!
ALMIGHTY GOD can use whatever occurs in our lives to be instrumental in our development, AND FOR HIS GLORY! “THE LORD HAS ASSIGNED” each of us to have a path unique to us, to be copied by no one. Each of us will have to answer one day for the choices we have made on our sojourn through “this world”. We think we lead a path of our own volition, but Proverbs 16:9 tells us “The heart of man plans his way, but THE LORD ESTABLISHES HIS STEPS.”
The path that “THE LORD HAS ASSIGNED” to you might involve a trial or two, but HE is still on HIS THRONE and cannot be removed! Your trial may include an extended hospital stay, or an empty checking account, a sick child, or something unimaginable, bad or extremely good! Just know that “THE LORD HAS ASSIGNED” this life to you and you are here to Glorify HIM, not to be made comfortable!!!

“THEY DID NOT UNDERSTAND!”
Luke 2:49-51 (ESV)
“49 And HE said to them, "Why were you looking for ME? Did you not know that I must be in MY FATHER’S house?"
50 And “THEY DID NOT UNDERSTAND” the saying that HE spoke to them.
51 And HE went down with them and came to Nazareth and was submissive to them. And HIS mother treasured up all these things IN HER HEART.”

“But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them IN HER HEART.”
December 24, 2019 my devotional included the verses above. While reviewing past posts recently, the words “THEY DID NOT UNDERSTAND” and IN HER HEART were continually ringing in my mind.
Have you ever been so caught up in what you were doing that when someone said something you couldn’t make sense of it and you summarily brushed it off without contemplating their message? Although JESUS was given to Joseph and Mary for safekeeping while growing up, occasionally “THEY DID NOT UNDERSTAND” HIS WORDS when HE spoke them unto them. Joseph’s reaction wasn’t documented in Scripture, but Mary pondered the words IN HER HEART!
How many times have I heard THE WORD OF GOD and I DID NOT UNDERSTAND, or just didn’t care enough to have my life CHANGED? Having your Spiritual EYES opened by GOD ALMIGHTY is the greatest fulfillment, especially when we let HIS WORD transform us into using us for HIS PURPOSE! “This world” keeps us moving at such a pace that to fit in we don’t have time to UNDERSTAND, we cannot slow our lives down to hear from GOD!
Proverbs 23:4 (ESV) says “Do not toil to acquire wealth; BE DISCERNING ENOUGH TO DESIST.” Another translation says “Do not wear yourself out to get rich; be WISE ENOUGH to restrain yourself.” Could it be that when I am so busy that “THEY DID NOT UNDERSTAND” that GOD is keeping my eyes closed where I am prevented from SEEING HIS Purpose for the lesson I am being exposed to? Mary treasured things IN HER HEART, learning from them when GOD saw fit to OPEN HER EYES! Maybe I will SLOW DOWN long enough to where my “THEY DID NOT UNDERSTAND” moments will be fewer as I mature for HIS GLORY?!?

“LET US CLEANSE OURSELVES!”
2 Corinthians 7:1 (ESV)
“Since we have these promises, beloved, “LET US CLEANSE OURSELVES” from every defilement of body and spirit, BRINGING HOLINESS to completion in the fear of GOD.”
A “memory” showed up recently on a social media site from last year. It reminded me of a friend who had offered this wisdom to “this world”....”For any who may vacillate at reality, we'll keep it short and simple: it's Male or Female, Boy or Girl, Man or Woman, Husband or Wife, Father or Mother; of God or of the Devil, the Truth or a Lie, END OF STORY!!”
When mankind tries to manipulate, twist, or change to make things more palatable for humans, that is typically NOT acceptable to a HOLY GOD. Anything that in our eyes is “good enough” is falling short of HOLINESS. Now don’t confuse what I am proclaiming to be saying that we are NOT in need of GRACE! 2 Corinthians 6:1b tells us “...we appeal to you NOT to receive the grace of GOD in vain.” We are unable to live up to the level of righteousness required to enter Heaven, so we must depend on HIM WHO was able to live up to that level, JESUS! While we are to be thankful and grateful for GRACE, we are not to receive grace in vain!
When we realize that we MUST “LET US CLEANSE OURSELVES”, we have to understand that us being able to overcome a enemy stronghold in our lives is purely by GRACE! Allowing JESUS CHRIST to live in me was, for the most part, an act of surrendering to HIS SPIRIT pursuit of me. The desire to be HOLY is solely from GOD. When I say “LET US CLEANSE OURSELVES”, it is begging HIM to remove desires to do what I want to do.
I’ve often heard it said “I’m not what I want to be, but thank GOD I’m not what I used to be”! The closer HE draws me to HIS LIGHT, the more dirt I
am able to SEE. “LET US CLEANSE OURSELVES” to be used by JESUS to magnify and glorify HIS NAME!!!

“A FEW THOUGHTS!”
A few thoughts from my quiet time recently:
***We don’t have, and possibly are incapable of having, a vivid picture of how HOLY GOD really is.
Researching thus thought further, I came across this snippet from a devotional: Trust starts with a definitive, intentional decision to “step over the line” by turning from doing things our way, trusting in ourselves and our own understanding, to transfer our dependence to God. Here’s a word of wisdom concerning not relying on ourselves and our own understanding [read: manipulating]: “Trust is living without scheming.”
***Nor do we have a true sense of how wretched we are OUTSIDE OF CHRIST.
In Romans 7 the Apostle Paul writes that he, in my estimation one of the greatest Believers of CHRIST ever, “thanks be to GOD through JESUS CHRIST our LORD!” is our only hope!
***HIS MERCY and PATIENCE, LONG-SUFFERING, and simply overall LOVE are indescribable.
Words cannot adequately enunciate HIS goodness to mankind. Many of us have tried, but HIS LOVE is beyond mans intellect.
John F. Kennedy held a dinner in the White House for a group of the brightest minds in the nation at that time. He made this statement:
"This is perhaps the assembly of the most intelligence ever to gather at one time in the White House, with the exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone."
"When we get piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe, we shall become as corrupt as Europe ." -- Thomas Jefferson
Psalms 46:10 (ESV) “"BE STILL, and know that I am GOD. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!"

“EVERY PERSON!”
Romans 13:1-2 (ESV)
“1 Let “EVERY PERSON” be subject to the governing authorities. For there is NO AUTHORITY EXCEPT FROM GOD, and those that exist have been instituted by GOD.
2 Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what GOD has appointed, and THOSE WHO RESIST WILL INCUR JUDGMENT.”
Humans can become so caught up in the actions (or inactions!) of our “governing authorities” that we don’t acknowledge GOD’S Sovereignty over our world. In looking at a chart of the kings over Israel, the “bad” kings far outnumbered the “good” kings. Some “feared” GOD, but most did what was right in their own eyes.
When the Apostle Paul was placed in prison in Acts 16, they didn’t protest or write letters to fellow humans. Instead, they were “praying and singing hymns to GOD” (Acts 16:25-26) and HE responded by setting them free via an earthquake! GOD is NEVER limited by our circumstances, as a matter of fact, GOD delights in impossibilities! When things seem the bleakest, they are just getting ripe for THE MASTER!
Having FAITH that GOD is in CONTROL, not earthly leaders, does not mean that everything will exactly the way we want. Throughout history GOD uses difficulties in life to cause us to trust in HIM, and no other. The Children of Israel were subjected to Egyptian captivity for 430 years.... all because they would not worship the LORD! Then GOD used Moses to lead them out of Egypt and across the Red Sea, and what did they do.....complain!!! No water, bad food, no house to call home, it seemed like they couldn’t be satisfied! It seems “EVERY PERSON” had a wish list of things that THEY wanted.
Once again in today’s world, it seems “EVERY PERSON” is looking out for how THEY THINK things need to be done. ALMIGHTY GOD has a Plan. It isn’t my place to whine and complain about how things might be going, rather to be “praying and singing hymns to GOD” for being used by HIM.......and to Glorify HIM! “EVERY PERSON” begins with ME!!!

“A DELIGHT TO THE EYES!”
“A DELIGHT TO THE EYES!”
Genesis 3:1-7 (ESV )
“1 Now the serpent was MORE CRAFTY than any other beast of the field that the LORD GOD had made. He said to the woman, "Did GOD actually say, 'You shall not eat of any tree in the garden'?"
2 And the woman said to the serpent, "We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden,
3 but GOD said, 'You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.'"
4 But the serpent said to the woman, "You will not surely die.
5 For GOD knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like GOD, knowing good and evil."
6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was A DELIGHT TO THE EYES, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate.
7 Then THE EYES OF BOTH WERE OPENED, and THEY KNEW THAT THEY WERE NAKED. And they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loincloths.”
The word FAITH is has been “hijacked” by “the enemy” to mean doing anything we think is good, when in fact, FAITH should be KNOWING that GOD IS GOD and that HIS wrath is greatly hidden and skewed by “the great deceiver”! Having our EYES OPENED to KNOW WE ARE NAKED before a HOLY GOD is a humbling and scary thing! Until we SEE that our only HOPE is to accept the sacrificial gift that JESUS paid on our behalf on Calvary, we cannot fully understand HIS LOVE and MERCY.
Adam and Eve were unable to SEE what “the enemy” was hiding from them. Spiritual death is far more fatal than losing our physical bodies. For a great part of my life I have sought whatever was “A DELIGHT TO THE EYES”, or whatever satisfied my flesh with no thought of what GOD had planned for HIS GLORY! FAITH is not Believing that everything will be “A DELIGHT TO THE EYES”, but that GOD is going to be Glorified in our lives! Only after I began daily digging into Scripture has my life been transformed into what GOD has for me. No longer am I fixated on what is “A DELIGHT TO THE EYES”, but what will Glorify HIM!
Becoming a person of true FAITH, and not what “this world” accepts as living right, is my desire. SEEing the REAL picture of what is transpiring (2 Kings 6:15-22), and KNOWING that our battle is NOT with flesh and blood (Ephesians 6:12), makes my FAITH grow even stronger and deeper. “A DELIGHT TO THE EYES” is no longer my goal, but serving the CREATOR OF THE UNIVERSES!

“OPEN THE EYES!”
“OPEN THE EYES!”
2 Kings 6:15-22 (ESV)
“15 When the servant of the man of GOD rose early in the morning and went out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was all around the city. And the servant said, "Alas, my master! What shall we do?"
16 He said, "Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them."
17 Then Elisha prayed and said, "O LORD, please “OPEN HIS EYES that he may see." So the LORD OPENED THE EYES of the young man, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was FULL OF HORSES AND CHARIOTS OF FIRE ALL AROUND ELISHA.
18 And when the Syrians came down against him, Elisha prayed to the LORD and said, "Please strike this people with blindness." So he struck them with blindness in accordance with the prayer of Elisha.
19 And Elisha said to them, "This is not the way, and this is not the city. Follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom you seek." And he led them to Samaria.
20 As soon as they entered Samaria, Elisha said, "O LORD, “OPEN THE EYES” of these men, that they may see." So the LORD OPENED THEIR EYES and they saw, and behold, they were in the midst of Samaria.
21 As soon as the king of Israel saw them, he said to Elisha, "My father, shall I strike them down? Shall I strike them down?"
22 He answered, "YOU SHALL NOT strike them down. Would you strike down those whom you have taken captive with your sword and with your bow? Set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink and go to their master."
As a new year and decade is upon us, my prayer is that I will be a soldier whom has sought guidance and direction from THE LORD, whom GOD has “OPENED THE EYES” to be able to SEE that HIS ARMY far outnumbers the armies of the enemy and that HE has already been declared THE WINNER! As a mere mortal, being able to see as a natural person limits our perception of what is REALLY going on around us. But GOD created satan (Romans 1:25) just like HE created me.
The enemy isn’t even in the same stratosphere as ALMIGHTY GOD is, so why do humans ever doubt GOD’S ability to be victorious? Elisha KNEW WHO GOD was, and he wanted those around him to SEE what he knew was going on in their surroundings. IF WE COULD SEE, like those Elisha prayed for, the “mountain was FULL OF HORSES AND CHARIOTS OF FIRE ALL AROUND ELISHA”, we would have a TOTALLY different perspective in life. We would KNOW that the enemy is a defeated foe, that GOD is in control of EVERYTHING, even the air we breathe (Isaiah 42:5)!
“OPEN THE EYES” of this servant LORD and cause me to live victoriously, being a testimony to YOUR GRACE for those who currently cannot see that YOU are GOD!

IF WE COULD SEE, like those Elisha prayed for, the “mountain was FULL OF HORSES AND CHARIOTS OF FIRE ALL AROUND ELISHA”, we would have a TOTALLY different perspective in life. We would KNOW that the enemy is a defeated foe, that GOD is in control of EVERYTHING, even the air we breathe (Isaiah 42:5)!
“OPEN THE EYES” of this servant LORD and cause me to live victoriously, being a testimony to YOUR GRACE for those who currently cannot see that YOU are GOD!
