Romans 12:1-2 (ESV)
A Living Sacrifice
“[1] I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of GOD, to PRESENT YOUR BODIES as a LIVING SACRIFICE, HOLY and ACCEPTABLE TO GOD, which is your spiritual worship. [2] “DO NOT BE CONFORMED TO THIS WORLD”, but be TRANSFORMED by the renewal of your mind, that BY TESTING you may discern what is the will of GOD, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
From the dictionary:
CONFORM: To act, often unquestioningly, in accordance with traditional customs or prevailing standards.
TRANSFORM: To change the nature, function, or condition of; convert: synonym: convert.
Acknowledging that we ARE DIFFERENT than others is the beginning of being TRANSFORMED by the RENEWAL of our minds! GOD didn’t make us “like this” for us to remain in sin, DOOMED to eternal separation from HIM.
It is worth noting that Romans 12:2 begins with “DO NOT BE CONFORMED TO THIS WORLD”, to be a CONVERT of JESUS, a NEW CREATION (2 Corinthians 5:17)! Encouraging ourselves to be DIFFERENT than others should be something that is sought after, not fitting into the crowd? I should desire to be CONVERTED from what others agree with and strive to “DO NOT BE CONFORMED TO THIS WORLD”!!!
