“YOU ARE THE LIGHT!”

Matthew 5:15-16                                                     (ESV)

“14 "YOU ARE THE LIGHT” of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.

15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house.

16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

Watching the actions of someone when they are put under pressure is the best way to see exactly what is behind their actions.  A “Coach” of mine in junior high school was a prime example of this.  He lived his life as a testament of helping others become responsible adults, a tremendous investment in the future!  Coach Lewis Thompson graduated to his eternal reward yesterday, and my life, just for one, was made better because of his actions!

Scripture says in Romans 3:10 “None is righteous, NO, NOT ONE”!  But JESUS says in Matthew 5:14 “YOU ARE THE LIGHT” of the world?  How can we be THE LIGHT when there is NOT ONE OF US who are righteous, NO, NOT ONE?  JESUS said “YOU ARE THE LIGHT”, so we must have some illuminating value?  This dames JESUS says in John 8:12 “I am the light of the world. Whoever FOLLOWS ME will not walk in darkness, but will have the LIGHT of LIFE." 

A mirror ONLY REFLECTS LIGHT, it has no illuminating values of its own.  Coach Thompson wasn’t perfect.  Like all of us, he made his share of mistakes.  He was, however, used at a critical time in my life to shine THE LIGHT OF CHRIST for a young teenage boy who was struggling in life. Coach Thompson, “YOU ARE THE LIGHT” was lived by your actions that I observed in a time when I needed to have direction. 

I don’t have any illuminating values of my own either!  I just pray that I will exemplify “YOU ARE THE LIGHT” for someone who is having trouble in their life!  JESUS IS THE LIGHT!  I am simply a mirror reflecting HIS LIGHT and LOVE to help others SEE the RIGHT WAS to travel!
