“HAVE MERCY UPON US!”

Psalms 123                             (ESV)

“1 To YOU I lift up my eyes, O YOU WHO are enthroned in the heavens!

2 Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their MASTER, as the eyes of a maidservant to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the LORD our God, till he has mercy upon us.

3 “HAVE MERCY UPON US”, O LORD, “HAVE MERCY UPON US”, for we have had more than enough of CONTEMPT.

4 Our soul has had more than enough of the scorn of those who are at ease, of the CONTEMPT of the proud.”

The word CONTEMPT is defined as “the feeling that a person or a thing is beneath consideration, worthless, or deserving scorn”.  When shows CONTEMPT toward a person, they are basically looking down on that person.  A person who is held in CONTEMPT OF COURT has shown “the offense of being disobedient to or disrespectful of a court of law and its officers”.

There is ONE, however, WHO is the ULTIMATE!  ONE WHO uses broken people to magnify HIS NAME, “YOU WHO are enthroned in the heavens!”  Regrettably, not everyone can SEE that GOD is WHO HE says HE is though.  Only we whose EYES have been OPENED to SEE TRUTH can worship JESUS!  Others may sing and shout, but they will not have a NEW SONG because they haven’t experienced being a NEW MAN!

According to one study of words, the word WORSHIP is built around two words, WORTH and SHIP.  Another way of saying “reverence paid to a supernatural or divine being”.  When we limit our minds to GOD being what “we think” HE is, we are holding HIM in CONTEMPT, for we have NO IDEA how TREMENDOUSLY vast GOD is, “O YOU WHO are enthroned in the heavens!”  Human minds don’t have the ability to fathom how magnanimous the CREATOR is.  HE literally SPOKE Creation, including mankind, into existence, and we act as though WE KNOW BEST regarding the problems we face?!?  How important is it to remind ourselves that GOD is GOD, and we are not!!

Am I holding ALMIGHTY GOD in CONTEMPT?  Do I “attempt” to limit what HE can do because of my unbelief?  In Mark 9:24, the father of the son with an evil spirit cried out “I believe; help my unbelief!"  In Ephesians 2:8 it is recorded “For BY GRACE you have been saved THROUGH FAITH. And this (FAITH) is NOT your own doing; it is the gift of GOD,”!

FATHER IN HEAVEN, my prayer is that YOU will “HAVE MERCY UPON US”, and I in turn will be submissive to YOUR SPIRIT so completely that YOU can and will grant me the FAITH to accomplish YOUR PLAN for my life!!!
