"THE WORD!"

Acts 17:10-12                        (GNV)
"10 And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea, which when they were come thither, entered into the Synagogue of the Jews.
11 These were also more noble men than they which were at Thessalonica, which received  "THE WORD" with all readiness, and SEARCHED THE SCRIPTURES DAILY, WHETHER THOSE THINGS WERE SO.
12 Therefore many of them believed, and of honest women, which were Grecians, and men not a few."

Often in life there are misunderstandings or misinterpretations of something spoken where the person who originally spoke the words has to make a clarification of what was meant.  There is never any better evidence than going to the source and getting "THE WORD" about what transpired.

Recently in a bible study in our church, our pastor referred to JESUS answering the Pharisees about divorce.  In Matthew 19:8 JESUS said "Moses, because of the hardness of your heart, suffered you to put away your wives: but FROM THE BEGINNING it was not so".  JESUS answered the Pharisees with TRUTH that could not be disputed.  True, HIS response was worded in a way to eliminate dispute, but that is what occurs when TRUTH is debated.

The believers at Berea in Acts 17:10-12 were men who received "THE WORD" with all readiness.  They SEARCHED THE SCRIPTURES DAILY to verify what they were being taught.  They did not take some preachers opinion or view about a subject.  They verified the positions presented to them by going to "THE WORD"!

The gospel of John 1:1 says "In the beginning was "THE WORD", and "THE WORD" was with God, and "THE WORD" was God"!  When JESUS spoke in Matthew 19:8, HE was not repeating what HE had been taught or what HE had heard!  HE was there with GOD FROM THE BEGINNING as "THE WORD"!  The Bereans received "THE WORD" with all readiness!  I pray my life demonstrates a willingness to receive and obey "THE WORD"!

"KEEP A CLOSE WATCH!"

1 Timothy 4:11-16                 (ESV)
"11 Command and teach these things.
12 Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.
13 UNTIL I COME, DEVOTE YOURSELF TO THE PUBLIC READING OF SCRIPTURE, TO EXHORTATION, TO TEACHING.
14 Do not neglect the gift you have, which was given you by prophecy when the council of elders laid their hands on you.
15 Practice these things, immerse yourself in them, so that all may see your progress.
16 Keep a close watch on yourself and on the teaching. Persist in this, for by so doing you will save both yourself and your hearers."

The writings of the Apostle Paul fill a large amount of the New Testament.  Of the letters I enjoy the most are his epistles to Timothy.  There is such wise and heartfelt instruction where Paul is guiding, not only Timothy but all who follow, to grow in the LORD and for HIS glory.

I love how Paul instructs Timothy to "devote yourself to the public reading of scripture" in 1 Timothy 4:13.  He didn't encourage him to write a book or hold a seminar.   He didn't instruct him on how to fundraise for the kingdom.  He wasn't interested in growing the ministry of Paul or Timothy, only the Kingdom of JESUS CHRIST by the reading of scripture!

So many times we get so caught up in how many people attend our "worship service", or how ornate and modern our facilities are, that we push CHRIST and HIS glorification aside.  We get so involved in the ceremonial rituals that we neglect to honor and celebrate the ONE to whom we should be worshipping.

Verse 16 tells us plainly to "KEEP A CLOSE WATCH on yourself AND on the teaching"!  Could it be that we claim grace too readily for our lifestyles and our teaching has suffered as a result?  Verse 15 instructs me to "immerse" myself in these things.  For us to "KEEP A CLOSE WATCH" and to "immerse" ourselves in the reading of scripture, exhortation, and teaching, leads our lives to submitting to seeing "progress" in our daily walk.  I pray that I will "KEEP A CLOSE WATCH" on my actions and entrust everyone else's actions to The LORD!

"IN OUR WEAKNESS!"

Romans 8:26-28                  (ESV)
"26 Likewise the Spirit helps us "IN OUR WEAKNESS". For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.
27 And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.
28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose."

Last evening I was complimented by a friend who said some of his friends posts on Facebook, mine included, were "downright inspiring on a daily basis"!  The momentary bit of pride was quickly removed upon reflection that all of my devotionals are a synopsis of me pouring my soul out to a HOLY GOD!   There are many times I feel like John Newton when he originally wrote "Amazing Grace".  It is reported that he initially wrote "that saved a WORM like me" instead of a "wretch" like me.

The Apostle Paul expressed my feelings very well in Romans 8:26-28.   Sometimes, when I come before GOD's throne I cannot even bear to show my face, nor utter a sound.  It is in those times when the Spirit of GOD Himself "intercedes" for me with groanings to deep for words!  The only thing about me that is worthy to be saved from the dung heap of mortal accomplishments, is that JESUS CHRIST died for me!

According to scripture, the Spirit of GOD helps us "IN OUR WEAKNESS".  Well, HE must have to help me more than anyone, because even though I am a large man, I am the weakest among the weak!  Any good that may be seen in me is simply a reflection of JESUS CHRIST shining in my mirror!

GOD IN HEAVEN, I pray that I will be mindful of the price YOUR SON paid to redeem me from the depths of sin and despair.  I realize and admit that I am but a worm before YOUR throne.  The only way I can even approach the Throne is through the sacrifice of JESUS CHRIST.  Help us "IN OUR WEAKNESS" to depend on YOU to live our lives for YOUR GLORY!

"Can this be the CHRIST?"

John 4:24-29                      (ESV)
"24 GOD is spirit, and those who worship HIM 'must' worship in spirit and truth."
25 The woman said to him, "I know that Messiah is coming (HE who is called CHRIST). When HE comes, HE will tell us all things."
26 JESUS said to her, "I who speak to you am HE."
27 Just then his disciples came back. They marveled that he was talking with a woman, but no one said, "What do you seek?" or, "Why are you talking with her?"
28 So the woman left her water jar and went away into town and said to the people,
29 "Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the CHRIST?"

Remembering back to my childhood, memories come back of a board game where players would put their fingers on a game piece provided by the manufacturers and the game piece would supposedly move to the answer to whatever question that was before the participants of the game.  Although I never placed any faith in the game or the answers from the board, some participants altered their plans for the future because of a board game!

The SPRIT world is extremely real and people who take it lightly do so foolishly.  John 4:24 says "GOD is SPIRIT"!  In Genesis 1:26 GOD says "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness".  If GOD is spirit, and we are made in HIS image, then it stands to reason we are a spirit.  Our beings have an opportunity to receive life (spiritual) eternal through the sacrifice of JESUS CHRIST, but most ignore the spirit world, much like I ignored the board game of my youth.

The woman at the well was speaking to GOD INCARNATE (JESUS) yet did not recognize HIM.  She told the people "Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did.  Can this be the CHRIST?"  JESUS had told her from HIS own lips in verse twenty six "I who speak to you am HE"!  Yet, she is asking the people "Can this be the CHRIST?"

Everyone has to make their own decision "Can this be the CHRIST?"  We cannot run to our friends and get their opinion, like the woman at the well.  As much as I love my family, I cannot believe for them!  Everyone must make that choice for themselves.  Just like I made the decision not to place my faith in a board game, we must ALL decide whether JESUS CHRIST is GOD INCARNATE?  We must ALL decide "Can this be the CHRIST?"

"SET YOUR MINDS!"

Colossians 3:1-4                 (ESV)
"1 If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.
3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
4 When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory."

Has anyone ever told you that "you act just like your parent"?  They may say you act just like your mom or dad, but their objective is to let you know you have so many characteristics of that person that you put them in remembrance of that person.

The Apostle Paul was trying to get this point across to the church at Colossae.  Scripture tells us to "SET YOUR MINDS" on things that are in Heaven, not on things that are temporal and pragmatic.  The things that are "of this world" will be so "foreign" in the next world that we will wonder why we even bothered with acquiring them.

The glory that we currently enjoy in Christ can in no way compare to the glory that awaits us when we are joined with HIM in glory.  For this reason, Paul instructs us to "SET YOUR MINDS" on those things that are above, and not on the problems that temporarily beset us.  We can make a mountain of a mole hill with worry and scheming, or we can live in Christ and let HIM assure us with HIS plan for us!

When we "SET YOUR MINDS" on HIM, we are choosing to give up control of our lives and place our trust in HIM.  We should have no worries when we are dependent on The LORD for our sustenance.  When our minds are focused on worldly problems the enemy is accomplishing his objective, which is to get us focused on anything but JESUS CHRIST.  This is a spiritual war (Ephesians 6:12) and if we "SET YOUR MINDS" on HIM and HIS glory, the enemy loses!!!

"REJOICE IN THE LORD!"

Habakkuk 3:17-18                (ESV)
"17 Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls,
18 yet I will rejoice in the LORD; I will take joy in the God of my salvation."

We all go through tough times in life.  Someone may lose their employment.  Someone else may have a broke down automobile, or health issues, or bankruptcy!  Others may have to deal with the death of one of their children.  The bible says is Job 14:1 "Man who is born of a woman is few of days and full of trouble."

Habakkuk informs us that he will "REJOICE IN THE LORD" even though his surroundings be less than desirable.  Can you imagine a farmer planting a crop, nurturing and tending that crop for weeks, only to see a storm come through before harvest time leaving no reward for the labors he expended?

We all invest our energies in various endeavors, trusting that our efforts will be rewarded with an increase.  But GOD is in control of the "earth and the fullness thereof" (Psalms 24:1) and HE will determine who does and doesn't get an increase.

A friend of mine is a successful businessman.  He readily admits there was a time when he was struggling in his business and didn't know if he was going to make it.  The darkness of those times must seem so far removed now.  Even though we may all experience "a few days and full of trouble", we are still commanded to "REJOICE IN THE LORD"!   I commit myself to HIM and to ever "REJOICE IN THE LORD" as I serve HIM!

"MIRRORS!"

Psalms 19:13-14                   (KJV)
"Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression. Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer."

Many times in my life I have said something that I regretted soon after saying it.  I am not too proud to say that the use my tongue has not always been prudent nor timely.  And it is with a degree of humility that I must state I am joined in my bad judgement by more than a few!

King David knew that a mouth of a man ultimately displays what is in the heart of the man.  In Matthew 12:34 JESUS says "out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks"!  A person can appear to be happy and smiley, but let the heat get turned up a bit and the venom starts flowing.  David pleaded with The LORD to make "the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart" be acceptable in HIS sight!  HE knew that man did not have to pleased by what was said, but GOD needed to be pleased, not only with the words that came from his mouth, but the thoughts that came from his heart!

Our lives are similar to "MIRRORS".  We reflect who we stand in front of the most.  When I slow my life down enough to study GOD's Word and ponder HIS principles, the reflection I shine is from HIM.  When I am hurried and don't take time in prayer, bible study, and confession of my sins, my sinful nature is displayed for all to see.

FATHER in HEAVEN, I pray that I will ever be before YOUR throne seeking guidance and direction as I live my life.  I pray that my life will "MIRROR" Your goodness and mercy.  The enemy will want me to reflect his traits through the "MIRROR" of my life, but it is my desire to reflect YOUR traits in my "MIRROR"!

"CONTROL???"

2 Chronicles 20:5-12; 18                (ESV)
"5 And Jehoshaphat stood in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the LORD, before the new court,
6 and said, "O LORD, God of our fathers, are you not God in heaven? You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations. In your hand are power and might, so that none is able to withstand you.
7 Did you not, our God, drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel, and give it forever to the descendants of Abraham your friend?
8 And they have lived in it and have built for you in it a sanctuary for your name, saying,
9 'If disaster comes upon us, the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we will stand before this house and before you-for your name is in this house-and cry out to you in our affliction, and you will hear and save.'
10 And now behold, the men of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir, whom you would not let Israel invade when they came from the land of Egypt, and whom they avoided and did not destroy-
11 behold, they reward us by coming to drive us out of your possession, which you have given us to inherit.
12 O our God, will you not execute judgment on them? For we are powerless against this great horde that is coming against us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you."

"18 Then Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground, and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell down before the LORD, worshiping the LORD."

CONTROL-to exercise restraint or DIRECTION OVER; dominate; command.

Everyone wants to have some sort of control over their life.  We at least want to have control of our bodily functions.  Most of us want our weight, blood sugar, blood pressure, and other health related figures under some sort of "CONTROL".  Things I might not exercise as great of "CONTROL" is the words I speak, the emotions I let motivate me, or the reactions I might have toward perceived injustices to me, or those I love.

King Jehoshaphat recognized who he was and WHO his GOD was. Although King Jehoshaphat was head over the Jewish people, he knew that he was nothing before the GOD in Heaven.   Many doubt the concept that GOD, a SPIRIT, can rule over something as powerful and mighty as an entire kingdom.  In 1967, GOD demonstrated HIS might once again to all.

According to Wikipedia.com, the Six Day War, from June 5–10, 1967, was a "Total" Israeli victory.  The total population of Israel in 2013 was 8,013,400.  The Arab nations opposing them in the Six Day War had a combined 2013 population of over 378,000,000!    How could a nation such as Israel so "out manned" "DOMINATE" in such fashion?  The "odds" seemed overwhelming!

From time to time I get frustrated with the "odds" that seem to be against me.  King Jehoshaphat resorted to what we all should seek refuge in.  He "fell down before the LORD, worshiping the LORD"!  GOD IS IN "CONTROL", whether we live our lives like it or not.

There are only two kinds of people on the earth.  True enough, there are differing nationalities, differing sects, differing ancestries.  But when Judgement Day comes the only difference that will matter is who you let "CONTROL" your life here on earth.  You can reserve "CONTROL" over your own life, or you can give up "CONTROL" to the same GOD who won the Six Day War!

"EVERY WORD!"

Matthew 4:4                 (KJV)
"But HE (JESUS) answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by "EVERY WORD" that proceedeth out of the mouth of GOD."

Psalms 55:22                (KJV)
"CAST thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall NEVER suffer the righteous to be moved."

The belief that "EVERY WORD" in scripture is written with a purpose and meaning is a belief  that I aspire to.  Matthew 4:4 and Isaiah 55:11 are where I would begin my case.  JESUS could have used the expression "EVERY WORD" to make people like me slow down and consider what is written, and why it was written?  The Word of GOD is not a novel, rather a roadmap that we should consult in living our lives.  "EVERY WORD" that GOD inspired to be written in HIS WORD is there to guide and direct my path!

Psalms 55:22 says to "CAST" thy burdens upon the LORD!  To cast our burden upon The Lord reminds me of a farmer sewing seeds in a field.  He literally throws the seed on the tilled ground and let's the LORD take it from there.  I need to learn to "let the LORD take it from there" more in life and not try to make the seeds turn into plants without HIS intervention.

Our "burdens" can be a multitude of issues.  Health issues, family concerns, financial concerns, problems on the job are just a few of issues we may consider a "burden".  But is anything a "burden" for the Creator of the Universe?  HE spoke everything into existence and upon HIS "EVERY WORD" everything exists!  Dr. Tony Evans likes to say "HE's got this"!

The words "HE shall sustain thee" does not necessarily mean by removing the burden, but giving strength to bear it, upholding you lest you should fall under the weight of the burden.  I have heard it said "GOD loves us the just as we are, but HE loves us too much to leave us that way!"  GOD uses difficulties to make us move to a more comfortable position.  We WILL move if the water gets too hot!

Earlier I mentioned the roadmap that HIS "EVERY WORD" provides, and that is something I choose not to ignore.  Some may be smart enough to navigate this life on their own.  I elect to adhere to "EVERY WORD" written in the plan HE has for my life.

"Needing a MIRACLE!"

Chonda Pierce is a Christian comedian and is married to her best friend.  Her best friend recently experienced a brain hemorrhage (Hemorrhagic Stroke) as I did seven years ago July 09.

I can't help but think what my family, mainly my wife, must have been going through seven years ago today.  I often speak of my ordeal almost haphazardly, as if it were a broken arm or a cut leg.  The numbers tell a far more sobering story.  Eighty Percent, that is 8 out of ten people, who experience Hemorrhagic Strokes do not survive.  When some of us do survive, doctors are usually aware that there was some divine intervention.  There is no explanation for GOD working in a persons life.  When there is no explanation, we resort to the only word we have to describe something, a "MIRACLE"!

There is also no explanation for GOD working in our lives spiritually.  Just as I rightfully deserved to have not survived the Hemorrhagic Stroke, we all rightfully deserve death, hell, and the grace spiritually!  But GOD so loved ALL OF US that HE provided JESUS to be the redemption we had no other way of receiving.  Just as I needed a "MIRACLE" seven years ago, we all need a "MIRACLE" to enter Heaven!

The numbers can paint a bleak outlook for brain hemorrhage patients.  But the prospects for getting to Heaven without knowing JESUS is far worse.  1 Timothy 2:5-6 reminds us "For there is ONE GOD, and ONE Mediator between GOD and man, which is the man CHRIST JESUS, WHO gave HIMSELF a ransom for all men, to be that testimony in due time".  We have no hope without our ransom being paid, and the only ONE capable of that is JESUS CHRIST!

My prayers will continue for the husband of Chonda Pierce.  As I have posted many times "We have a GOD who delights in impossibilities"!  Sometimes impossibilities require a "MIRACLE"!!!

"HIS WORD!"

Isaiah 55:10-11              (ESV)
"10 "For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater,
11 so shall "MY WORD" be that goes out from MY mouth; it shall not return to ME empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it."

Reading has NEVER been one of my greatest interests!  I always made good grades in reading in school, but it seemed I was always too much of a busy-body to sit down and read a book or anything longer than a brief newspaper article.  On the other hand, I have acquaintances who could read lengthy novels without interruption.

The number of people however, that read the Holy Bible with any regularity continues to decline.  This is evidenced by the lack of people KNOWING what is in HIS WORD.  That people will face life's problems and difficulties without consulting The Creator of the Universes is similar to a dress maker attempting to repair a rocket ship.  The dress maker has no training in rocket ship design, therefore would not be the one to consult should a problem arise with the rocket ship.

In our lives, we have an instruction manual called The Holy Bible that GOD gave us.  GOD knew that we would have difficulties (Job 14:1; James 1:12; John 16:33; etc.....), but "HIS WORD" is a guide for us to follow.  I am reminded of a man who has a roadmap in the glovebox of his car and is he lost for hours, but refuses to seek guidance from the roadmap?   Finally his wife makes him look at the map, and within minutes they reach their destination.

Regardless of your thoughts of the him, former President Ronald Reagan is quoted as saying "Within the covers of the Bible are ALL the answers for ALL the problems men face!"  We have the owners manual inspired by the Creator as a guide for our lives.  HE has given "HIS WORD" for us to keep with us.  Isn't it time we take it out of our glovebox and find out not only where we are, but where we are going???

"TOO MANY!"

Judges 7:1-2                  (ESV)
"1 Then Jerubbaal (that is, Gideon) and all the people who were with him rose early and encamped beside the spring of Harod. And the camp of Midian was north of them, by the hill of Moreh, in the valley.
2 The LORD said to Gideon, "The people with you are "TOO MANY" for me to give the Midianites into their hand, lest Israel boast over me, saying, 'My own hand has saved me'."

GOD speaks to us in various ways!  Gideon did not question the leadership of GOD to defeat the Midianites.  Instead Gideon obeyed the directions of GOD and carried only 300 men into battle when there were 32,000 present to fight.  Why would anyone prepare for battle with 300 warriors when they had 32,000 at their disposal?

We seem to forget that nothing is impossible with GOD (Luke 1:37).  GOD could have caused the Midianites to die in their sleep the night before?  GOD could have blinded the Midianites with a dust storm?  GOD could have done a lot of things.  All Gideon knew was GOD told him that all GOD needed for this task was for 300 men to remain in camp.  And Gideon obeyed.

GOD is not interested in promoting a person or their agenda.  GOD knew that HE would not get the glory from the victory of 32,000 over the Midianites, but HE would if only 300 were used to defeat the Midianites.  GOD was not interested in Gideon being successful, rather GOD was moved to be glorified by allowing the obedient servant listen to HIM.

One of my favorite quotes is "We have a GOD who delights in impossibilities".  GOD STILL relishes the opportunity to overcome difficulty for HIS obedient servants.  Sometimes HE may tell me I have "TOO MANY" to accomplish HIS plan?  This is the same GOD who spoke the universes into existence.  For HIM to be glorified, HE doesn't require "TOO MANY" warriors!  HE only needs a few obedient servants!

"AN HEIR THROUGH GOD!"

Galatians 4:6-7                 (ESV)
"6 And because you are sons, GOD has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, "Abba! Father!"
7 So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through GOD."

When I was growing up we were so poor we did not know it!  I remember one Christmas my sisters and I getting bicycles for our Christmas present!  One might have thought we had been given a Million Dollars!  All we care about was that we had bicycles and we didn't care what anyone else received.

Imagine having a parent with the wealth of untold amounts at their disposal.  If they truly loved their children, they would not give the children everything they wanted.  Their children would need to learn that all GOOD THINGS come from GOD.

But ALL THINGS does not equate to GOOD THINGS.  I have grown far more in times of need than I have in times of plenty.  It seems I listen for GOD more when I have been blessed with a need, rather when I have been blessed with an abundance.  A good parent will give their child what they NEED before giving their child what they want.  A child may want candy for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  A good parent will give them a balanced meal for those three settings, and every now and then give a little candy as a reward or treat.

GOD will give us the things we need as we glorify HIM.  We are "AN HEIR THROUGH GOD" and HE will supply all our need (Philippians 4:19).  We just have to understand HE is a good parent and HE is not going to give us everything we want!  HE is going to feed us according to HIS plan (Jeremiah 29:11-14) for our lives.  Since we are "AN HEIR THROUGH GOD" we can trust that the path we take will be the steps (Psalms 119:133-135) HE has ordered for us!

"Have faith in GOD!!"

Mark 11:22                      (KJV)
"22 And Jesus answering saith unto them, HAVE FAITH IN GOD."

Many times I sit down to do my devotional with absolutely NO idea where the Spirit will lead me. As evidenced by some of my writings, the tendency to wander is something I am familiar with.  This morning though, my mind is set on one focal point..... just WHO IS GOD?

Arguably, the most powerful man in the world is one of the elected leaders.  The President of the United Stares, or of Russia, or of China would have to be considered some of the most influential leaders of the people living on earth at any given time.  But, it is only for a given time!

Conversely, wealth brings with it much power.  The wealthiest person alive would command an immense amount of respect.  People generally give people with great wealth a certain amount of unearned admiration because they have a perceived higher status in society.

But why does everyone not give HONOR and PRAISE to the ONE being WHO will be here forever and whose wealth is unimaginable?  The fact of the matter is, we don't give proper or adequate admiration to the ONE we so casually call "GOD"!

Most meals I bow my head and close my eyes and ask GOD to bless the food HE has provided for me.  But do I realize I am asking the Creator of the Universes to care enough about me to bless the food to nourish my body!  Can you fathom requesting the President of a large country to care enough about you to give his/her blessings on what you were eating?  Or how about asking a multi-billionaire to watch over you while you had a tooth surgically removed?

Yet our GOD, the Ruler of ALL, omnipotent Creator of the Universe, not only cares about our lives, HE sent HIS SON as a ransom for the wretched life I have lived so that I can have a relationship with HIM!  Now, since HE loves so, and HE provides even the air I breath, doesn't it stand to reason HE has everything else in my life under HIS control?  Why then should we have to be told by JESUS to "HAVE FAITH IN GOD"?  HE'S GOT THIS!!!

"TURN BACK??"

Exodus 14:1-4               (ESV)
"1 Then the LORD said to Moses,
2 "Tell the people of Israel to "TURN BACK" and encamp in front of Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, in front of Baal-zephon; you shall encamp facing it, by the sea.
3 For Pharaoh will say of the people of Israel, 'They are wandering in the land; the wilderness has shut them in.'
4 And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and he will pursue them, AND I WILL GET GLORY OVER PHARAOH AND ALL HIS HOST, and the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD." And they did so."

How many times have you heard a leader give orders to "TURN BACK"?  I'm not sure why, but I seem to be programmed to move forward, to continue moving ahead.  It seems if I "TURN BACK", I am losing ground.  What we perceive is not always reality though, as indicated in Proverbs 14:12 when it says "There is a way that SEEMS right to a man, but its end is the way to death"!

This text begins with a statement we tend to minimize.  "Then the LORD said to Moses" should let us know that the Creator of the Universe was actively engaged with a human.  GOD's desire is to still speak to humans.  Are we TOO BUSY to listen to HIM or HIS directions?  If GOD told us to "TURN BACK" would we be trying so hard to "get ahead in life" that we would even hear HIM?  The fact that GOD told Moses to tell the people of Israel to "TURN BACK" was an act of faith in itself.  The children of Israel could have made a good point that the only thing behind them was captivity and oppression.  But GOD had other plans for the retreat!

The Egyptians, led by Pharaoh, pursued the children of Israel all the way into the Red Sea. GOD hardened Pharaoh's heart to make sure they pursued.  GOD gained glory over Pharaoh and all his hosts when HE caused the waters to return to the banks of the Red Sea.  GOD used a miracle to provide salvation for HIS followers, then GOD used a return to normalcy to gain glory over the ones who didn't believe in HIM.

Moses had to be listening to GOD to hear HIS instructions.  When GOD said "TURN BACK", it was not a suggestion.  GOD knew that Pharaoh would think the Hebrew nation was wandering in the wilderness with no direction.  But Moses was listening to GOD, and trusting GOD would deliver the children of Israel to the Promised Land.  The "TURN BACK" order may not have made good strategic sense, but GOD has HIS own strategy!  We need to be focused on hearing, and trusting, in HIM!

"RADICAL, LUNATIC!"

Romans 12:1-2              (ESV)
"1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.
2 DO NOT BE CONFORMED TO THIS WORLD, but be TRANSFORMED by the RENEWAL of YOUR MIND, that by TESTING you may DISCERN what is the WILL OF GOD, what is good and acceptable and perfect."

The Apostle Paul was a unique individual.  He is credited as being the author of at least 13 books of the New Testament.  Yet, he spent an inordinate amount if time in jail, as he was considered a "RADICAL, LUNATIC" by the establishment of his time.  Paul didn't seem to mind, as he preached JESUS and HIM crucified (1 Corinthians 1:23) and let the Holy Spirit do the changing of hearts.

Romans 12:2 is a verse that people have memorized for centuries.  The mindset that it leads me to is similar to the "RADICAL, LUNATIC" mindset that Paul was labeled with.  The word "CONFORM" means "to be or BECOME SIMILAR in form, nature, or character."  Don't Rock the boat, don't stir up controversy, don't stand up for Christ and HIS beliefs was not what Paul was all about.  After all, the establishment were the leaders who crucified JESUS CHRIST!  Paul is saying we DO NOT need to BECOME SIMILAR to these people.  We need to be different.

The second portion of the verse says we need to be TRANSFORMED by the RENEWAL of YOUR MIND!  Transformed means "to CHANGE in condition, nature, or character; convert."  I believe what Paul is saying is we need to be willing be a "RADICAL, LUNATIC" for the cause of Christ!  We should not let the establishment leaders determine how we should live our lives, rather the WILL OF GOD should dictate our actions.

It should come as no surprise that the enemy has "RADICAL, LUNATIC" followers who readily give their lives in support of what they believe in.  One has to wonder why the children of a Holy GOD would put more emphasis on making a dollar than serving HIM?  Hosea 4 is a description of what happens when GOD's children turn their backs on GOD.  I am not so sure that being branded a "RADICAL, LUNATIC" by the modern-day establishment leaders would be such a bad thing?  I am pretty sure JESUS CHRIST would have been included in the "RADICAL, LUNATIC" group????

"Except ONE!"

John 16:29-33              (ESV)
"29 His disciples said, "Ah, now you are speaking plainly and not using figurative speech!
30 Now we know that you know all things and do not need anyone to question you; this is why we believe that you came from God."
31 Jesus answered them, "Do you now believe?
32 Behold, the hour is coming, indeed it has come, when you will be scattered, each to his own home, and will leave me alone. Yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me.
33 I have said these things to you, that in ME you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world."

While here on earth JESUS spoke in parables often, I believe because HIS hearers could not comprehend pure, unadulterated TRUTH!  There were a few times HE chose to speak plainly though, and this was one of those times.  One would like to think HE spoke so no person could misinterpret the massage HE was trying to get across.

JESUS said "in the world" we WOULD have tribulation.  HE didn't say we COULD have, or we MIGHT have, or MAYBE we would have tribulation!  JESUS was alerting HIS disciples that tough times were coming, but that HE had overcome the world.  The difficulties that lie ahead for the disciples were a PROMISE, but so was the victory that awaited them.

Why do we get so frustrated when things don't work out the way we think they should?   Why do we have a preconceived idea of utopia and the perfect life?  All of the trials and difficulties I have faced in my life have grown me into who I currently am.  The trials and difficulties I currently am going through are preparing me for my future.

Don't be looking for a friend or acquaintance to assist you through a valley you may be going through.  GOD may be trying to teach you that HE is the ONLY help you need.  We should be willing to be used of HIM when we see others with a need, but we need to understand that HE may be using those difficulties to grow someone?

Psalms 46:1 says "GOD is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble."  No friend can provide peace and joy.........except ONE!

"LIVE FOR CHRIST!"

Genesis 1:24-27                             (ESV)
"24 And God said, "Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to "their" kinds-livestock and creeping things and beasts of the earth according to "their" kinds." And it was so.
25 And GOD made the beasts of the earth according to "their" kinds and the livestock according to "their" kinds, and everything that creeps on the ground according to "its" kind. And GOD saw that it was good.
26 Then GOD said, "Let US make man in OUR image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth."
27 So God created man in HIS own image, in the image of GOD HE created him; male and female HE created them."

GOD is far bigger than humans can imagine with our finite minds.  Louis Gigglio has a YouTube video about the vastness of the Universes, and he readily admits even THAT video  underestimates WHO my GOD really is.  The song "How big is GOD" says "HE's big enough to rule HIS mighty universe, Yet SMALL ENOUGH to live within my heart"!

GOD made the animals according to "their own kinds", but HE made man and woman "in HIS own image".  John 4:24 says GOD is a Spirit, so if we are created in HIS likeness, it stands to reason that we are a Spirit.  These bodies are only rentals were are wearing for a limited time.  Soon we will wear the fine clothes of our Heavenly bodies!

According to the English Standard Version of the Bible, GOD created male and female separately.  GOD had a plan and a purpose for man and woman.  The enemy has attempted to circumvent GOD's plan from the beginning.  However, a fake and a fraud can't emulate a plan and a purpose!  Romans 1:24-32 says GOD "gave them up to dishonorable passions".  GOD has an all voluntary army, and if we choose not to serve in HIS army, HE respects our decision.

As I have posted many times, C.S. Lewis has a quote that I have on my computer.  It says "You don't have a soul.  You ARE a Soul.  You have a body"!  We are created in HIS image, a living SOUL!  When JESUS came into my heart, I had to die to allow HIM room to move in.  Everyday I have to continue to die to myself (Romans 6) and allow CHRIST to live through me!  I pray that I will continue die to self and sin and "LIVE FOR CHRIST"!

"PREACH THE WORD!"

2 Timothy 4:1-5            (ESV)
"1 I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom:
2 "PREACH THE WORD"; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.
3 For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having "itching ears" they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions,
4 and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.
5 As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry."

Might there be any greater example that the Holy Bible is the Word of GOD than the above passage?  The practice of desiring to hear those who agree with one perspective or another has become so polarizing that nothing is being done for good.  Even my own stance on a number of issues has changed over the years, but that doesn't mean my position was, or is, the correct one.  There is ONE standard that all must be judged against, and that is the pure, unadulterated TRUTH of the WORD!

No one relishes in the fact that they may have held an incorrect position on a matter.  But we are all human and make mistakes.  The best way to assure we are correct in our views is to "PREACH THE WORD"!  The Apostle Paul encouraged Timothy to take his direction and instruction from teaching the WORD.  At anytime ,Paul rightfully said, the WORD of GOD was the measuring stick we should ALL adhere to.

It is becoming even more commonplace for people to listen to speakers who say what is soothing and comfortable to their hearing.  The people do not want to hear reproof and rebuke, rather about love and agreement.  It is far easier to speak about how much good people are spreading, than to compare us to the standard of JESUS CHRIST.  When I am compared to JESUS, I must look for some other measuring stick, as I do not measure up.  MERCY and GRACE must become part of my life!

When we "PREACH THE WORD" the standard never changes.  Some may avoid certain subjects or issues, but that doesn't mean that GOD has avoided them.  Our "itchy ears" may not hear what GOD is saying to us, but if the men of GOD "PREACH THE WORD" our excuses will matter on Judgement day.

"FAR MORE ABUNDANTLY!"

Ephesians 3:20-21                (ESV)
"20 Now to him who is able to do "FAR MORE ABUNDANTLY" than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us,
21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen."

Luke 1:35-38                         (ESV)
"35 And the angel answered her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy-the Son of God.
36 And behold, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren.
37 FOR NOTHING WILL BE IMPOSSIBLE WITH GOD."
38 And Mary said, "Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word." And the angel departed from her."

I wrote a couple of days ago how GOD uses differing medias to speak to me.  Once again this morning HE spoke to me from a devotional from Dr. Charles Stanley.   The thing that stood out with me was these two sentences, "Do you live in eager expectation of what the Lord will do? Or have you chosen to linger in the depths of despair?"  That got me to pondering if I was limiting GOD because of my unbelief?

How many times do I find myself waiting for "the other shoe to drop"?  Have I developed a "GOD can overcome" mentality, or do I have a "GOD will overcome" mindset?  The thing I have to remind myself of is that my timetable and GOD's timetable aren't always the same. As a matter of fact, lately my timetable has not been nearly as tolerant as it needs to be.

GOD did not promise Elizabeth a son on her timing.  I am sure Elizabeth had a thought that since she was advanced in years that she might have misunderstood her promise from GOD!  But John, the forerunner of JESUS CHRIST, was born to Elizabeth and Zechariah.

John was born as a fulfillment of a promise from GOD to Elizabeth. GOD always fulfills HIS promises.   If HE has promised you something, don't give up on it.  The promise may have to wait on HIS timing.  GOD's promises will not be altered by our perception of when we think HE needs to do something "FAR MORE ABUNDANTLY"!

The "OASIS"!!

Mark 11:15-18                       (GNV)
"15 And they came to Jerusalem, and Jesus went into the Temple, and began to cast out them that sold and bought in the Temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves.
16 Neither would he suffer that ANY man should carry a vessel through the Temple.
17 And he taught, saying unto them, Is it not written, Mine house shall be called the house of prayer unto all nations? but you have made it a den of thieves.
18 And the Scribes and high Priests heard it, and sought how to destroy him: for they feared him, because the whole multitude was astonied at his doctrine."

There are so many divisions in today's church.  Every church has their "do' and don'ts" that are part if acceptable behavior.  There are even certain areas in churches where access is limited to a chosen few.  When JESUS was crucified on the cross, the veil of the temple was rent in two signifying that the New Covenant (Hebrews 8:13, 12:24) was now in place.  No longer would man be required to have a go-between to confess their sins to GOD.

The LORD has given me a vision to build a facility where HIS name will be glorified.  I am not talking about a regular "church service".  The facility would NOT accept tithes, but would operate solely from offerings from participants.  The purpose is to have a place where "believers" can come together for a Christian music concert, or a marriage seminar, or a youth function, or any other ceremony where JESUS CHRIST is glorified.

An "OASIS" is defined as "1. a small fertile or green area in a desert region, usually having a spring or well. OR  2.something serving as a refuge, relief, OR PLEASANT CHANGE FROM WHAT IS USUAL, annoying, difficult, etc...".  I think an "OASIS" is needed in most lives today.  A "pleasant change from what is usual" would be a welcomed intrusion into most lives!

JESUS CHRIST can, and does, change lives like nothing else.  HE changed the world so that the calendar changed when HE came to earth!  (A.D. = Latin for Anno Domini "In the year of Our LORD).  The vision is for people to worship JESUS CHRIST outside of a "church" setting to signify that HE is LORD OF ALL, not just inside a church building!  The "OASIS " will be that "pleasant change from what is usual"!!

"TRUST AND OBEY!"

Exodus 4:10-12                   (ESV)
"10 But Moses said to the LORD, "Oh, my Lord, I am not eloquent, either in the past or since you have spoken to your servant, but I am slow of speech and of tongue."
11 Then the LORD said to him, "Who has made man's mouth? Who makes him mute, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Is it not I, the LORD?
12 Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall speak."

The LORD speaks to me in various ways.  Through scripture mainly, but also through devotionals that are emailed to me and social media.  If in Numbers 22:28 GOD used a donkey to deliver HIS message, HE can use any modern means to deliver HIS instructions to me.

This morning my devotional from Dr. Charles Stanley was one that was RIGHT on time!  Moses wanted to tell GOD how unable he was to perform the tasks GOD had in his future.  But GOD was going to do the heavy lifting!  HE only needed someone to "TRUST AND OBEY" HIS directions!

I am sharing the devotional from Dr. Charles Stanley as it has spoken to me in a tremendous way.  I pray it will speak to you also as you serve HIM!

Breaking Down the Faith Barrier

Exodus 4:1-13

A faith barrier is made up of 'attitudes' that short-circuit our trust and prevent us from OBEYING the Lord's will. A NEGATIVE SELF IMAGE can hinder us in this way, as can ignorance of God's character and promises. Three other attitudes can also trip us up: DOUBT, feelings of INADEQUACY, and FEAR OF FAILURE.

Moses DOUBTED that the Israelites would believe he had been chosen by the Lord to lead them. But GOD graciously provided reassurance--in the form of evidence that HE could accomplish everything HE'd promised (Ex. 4:1-5). When DOUBT invades our minds, it can be overcome with "diligent study" of Scripture and persistent prayer, which will dislodge uncertainty and replace it with biblical truth.

Moses wasn't eloquent, and a perceived lack of skill left him feeling inadequate for the job--HE WAS AFRAID trying to speak would make him stumble. GOD patiently reassured him of divine help in that task. The LORD often chooses unlikely people to carry out HIS plan because HE looks at the heart, not human qualifications (1 Sam. 16:7). HE can overcome all our inadequacies.

Sadly, Moses did not embrace what God promised but instead asked to be relieved of the assignment. A FEAR OF FAILURE can prevent us from saying yes to the LORD.

Carrying out GOD's will requires a heart that trusts HIM, a soul that steps out in obedience, AND A MIND THAT LEAVES SUCCESS OR FAILURE TO HIM. As we break down the faith barrier, we will be able to see the evidence of GOD's presence and power--and experience the joy of obedience.

"A TIME TO DIE"

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8                    (ESV)
"1 For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:
2 a time to be born, and "A TIME TO DIE"; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
3 a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
4 a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
5 a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
6 a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
7 a time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to KEEP SILENCE, and a TIME TO SPEAK;
8 a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace."

Today is a monumental day for me.  Seven years ago today I experienced a brain hemorrhage that the LORD has used to gain tremendous glory in my life.  As long as I am here on this earth, I will proclaim the goodness of the ONE who gives life, and the ONE who takes life!

Just yesterday, a friend and fellow insurance agent was driving on interstate and had a single vehicle accident.  He was killed in the mishap.  Little is known regarding the accident. The only sure thing known is a man was driving, and a few minutes later he was dead!

The seasons of life we live in have a way of speaking to us in a LOUD voice that GOD is in control.  No one can explain why I survived and recovered the way I did.   Likewise, no one can explain why my friend did not make it to lunch yesterday.  We live as though we are in total and complete control of our surroundings.  When I awoke seven years ago, I could not walk nor could I put a sentence together!  Talk about being "out-of-control"!!!  If I have learned anything since, it is that GOD is the ONLY ONE in control!

To say that the past seven years has been a great blessing is a huge understatement.  Where I could be is a story I choose to not think much about.  I pray for my friends family as they adjust to life without their husband/father.  One of these days, should the LORD tarry HIS return, my family will have to adjust to my departure.  I have made my preparations!  When "A TIME TO DIE" comes for you, what plans have you made?

"GOD LED THEM!"

Exodus 13:17-22
"17 And it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that "GOD LED THEM" not through the way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for GOD said, Lest peradventure the people repent when they see war, and they return to Egypt: 18 But GOD led the people about, through the way of the wilderness of the Red Sea: and the children of Israel went up harnessed (equipped for battle) out of the land of Egypt. 19 And Moses took the bones of Joseph with him: for he had straitly sworn the children of Israel, saying, GOD will surely visit you; and ye shall carry up my bones away hence with you. 20 And they took their journey from Succoth, and encamped in Etham, in the edge of the wilderness. 21 And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night: 22 HE took not away the pillar of the cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, from before the people."

The "Prosperity Preachers" of television and magazine fame must not enjoy reading about the Exodus from Egyptian captivity by the children of Israel.  Although the deliverance from bondage was miraculous, it did not come without hardships, and many battles.  Over the forty years of arriving in the Promised Land, how many "ites" were defeated by the Israelis?  It seems GOD uses difficulty to exhibit HIS majesty and power In our lives.  At least, that is when we give HIM credit for it!

"GOD LED THEM" into the wilderness to avoid the Philistines because HE knew they would wilt under the warfare that would present itself to them. Although the Egyptians would be following them, GOD had a plan for the enemy. The Israelis had to wander for forty years in the wilderness, but "GOD LED THEM" to show HIS might to ALL as they went.

"GOD LED THEM" to the banks of the Red Sea where the Egyptians were pursuing them.  The Red Sea then parted and the children of Israel crossed and the Egyptians were consumed by the waters.  Some of the children of Israel were complaining that Moses had led them into the wilderness to die.  But GOD had led them to where only HE would be "honoured upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host" when the waters overcame them.  "GOD LED THEM" to a position where no one else could get glory for the victory over the Egyptians.

One thing we mustn't overlook, the children of Israel were "harnessed" (equipped for battle according to the ESV), but since "GOD LED THEM" no battle was necessary.  GOD may be leading you through a Red Sea experience.  If HE is leading you, the battle will belong to the LORD!  "GOD LED THEM" should be what all who observe our lives comment about us. One reason we don't see miracles of olden times might be because we can no longer say "GOD LED THEM"???

"A HOLY GRUNT!!"

John 10:22-28      (KJV)
"22 And it was at Jerusalem the feast of the dedication, and it was winter. 23 And Jesus walked in the temple in Solomon’s porch. 24 Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly. 25 Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father’s name, they bear witness of me. 26 But ye believe not, because YE ARE NOT OF MY SHEEP, as I said unto you. 27 MY SHEEP HEAR my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand."

This morning while reading scripture I was directed to a DEVOTIONAL website that offered the following:

"The most difficult part of hearing God is the fact that it TAKES TIME to learn to discern God's voice -- and it takes a humble heart. Jeremiah 29:12-13 says, "Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart."

We can't make demands on Almighty God. We can't shake our fist at the sky and say, 'all right God, let me hear you.' But we can ask, seek, and knock, and the Bible promises that God will open the door. God will reveal Himself to those who humbly seek Him."

While meditating, it was revealed to me this interesting dichotomy.  "Hearing GOD" and "hearing from GOD" can be a confusing thing.  There are recorded times in the Bible that an audible sound emanated from Heaven and the people spoken to KNEW they were hearing GOD.  The are other times when GOD's presence is so evident that the people know that ONLY GOD could have caused what transpired.  When JESUS was asked in John 10:22-42 by the Jewish "leaders" why HE was keeping the mystery from them, HE replied "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me"!  People who choose not to hear HIS voice can't follow what they choose not to hear.

For quite a long time in my life I was too busy to hear GOD speaking to me.  HE had to SHOUT to get my attention!  The television was constantly on at my house, or I had the radio/tape player/CD player on in my vehicle, or some other noise to prevent me from hearing a "still, small voice" (1 Kings 19:11-13).  Seven years ago this Wednesday morning, GOD let me know that things were not as important as I might have thought.  When control over what words you say and your ability to walk are removed, your perspective on life is forever changed.  I have learned since to listen.........not only to people differently, but to GOD in a whole new way.

I am one of HIS sheep, and I want everyone to know that HE is speaking to me, that I know HIS voice, and I am following HIM.  The path I follow may not make sense to the world, much as it didn't to the Jewish leaders in JESUS' time, but  it is my goal to follow HIS lead wherever HE may direct me.  It is my desire to be so sensitive to HIS leadership that all HE has to express is "A HOLY GRUNT", and I will listen to HIM!!

"ETERNAL THINGS!"

2 Corinthians 4:16-18      (NASB)
"Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day. For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are NOT SEEN are eternal."

It has been said many times "If you didn't see it with your own "EYES" or hear it with your own ears, don't think it with your small mind and spread it with your big mouth"!  We put a lot of emphasis on an eye-witness account of what was seen.  People frequently are convicted or acquitted of crimes based on an eye-witness version of the truth.

But what we "SEE" is not always what is truly happening.  When we observe something (usually good) out-of-the-ordinary occurring, we like to claim it is a miracle.  The "momentary, light affliction" (usually not so good) we have to sometimes endure may be just as miraculous!   GOD can use what man intends for harm to glorify HIS name!

The "eternal weight of glory far beyond ALL comparison" may not be seen right now.  We should be confident that the "ETERNAL THINGS" are not visible.  JESUS instructs us in Matthew 6:20 to lay up treasures in Heaven.  1 Corinthians 2:9 tells us that "eyes have seen, nor ear heard, nor heart imagined" all of what is awaiting us in Heaven.   Every cup of water given in the spirit of HIS service will be remembered.  The things we don't see are the real things that make an impact.

There are a lot of "temporal" things that we like to relish in our lives.  Sports championships, awards from work, houses, automobiles, money, and all kinds of possessions will become "wood, hay, and stubble"!  The only matter that will stand the fire will be "ETERNAL THINGS" that we cannot see.  The unseen things are the "ETERNAL THINGS"!!

"UNCERTAINTY OF THE MOMENT!"

Mark 4:35-41                  (ESV)
"35 On that day, when evening had come, HE said to them, "Let us go across to the other side."
36 And leaving the crowd, they took HIM with them in the boat, just as HE was. And other boats were with HIM.
37 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling.
38 But HE was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke HIM and said to HIM, "Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?"
39 And HE awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, "Peace! Be still!" And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
40 HE said to them, "WHY ARE YOU SO AFRAID? HAVE YOU STILL NO FAITH?"
41 And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, "WHO then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey HIM?"

There are many times from my childhood I remember being frightened by something I was instructed to do.  Looking back, I now know that my mother, or other adult, loved me far too much to ever lead me into danger.  Yet I allowed the "UNCERTAINTY OF THE MOMENT" dominate my mind and emotions.

I must admit, there are still times when I feel like the child I once was who is being scolded for not learning from the lessons I have been exposed to.  I know Hebrews 11:6 says "And without faith it is IMPOSSIBLE to please HIM, for whoever would draw near to GOD must believe that HE exists and that HE rewards those who seek HIM."  GOD has proven HIMSELF to me over and over again, and still I let the "UNCERTAINTY OF THE MOMENT" cloud my thinking.  When will I ever learn?

JESUS CHRIST had to gently rebuke HIS disciples for letting the "UNCERTAINTY OF THE MOMENT" bring fear into their lives.  It wasn't a coincidence the storm happened at this point in history!  JESUS came to fulfill GOD's plan.  In modern layman terms JESUS said 'Quit worrying. I've got this'!  FAITH?  The disciples were fighting for their lives, yet JESUS was taking a nap!  Had I been a disciple, that boat ride would have been one that I made sure I told everyone I came in contact with about.

GOD has brought me through many perceived dangers in my life.  The "UNCERTAINTY OF THE MOMENT" can, does, and will, dominate my thoughts, if I allow it to.  I am no better than the disciples on this evening.  JESUS said in John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them BE AFRAID".  I pray I will not allow the "UNCERTAINTY OF THE MOMENT" cloud my thinking, but that I will remember that JESUS is onboard with me!!

A shining "LIGHT"!

John 1:1-5                 (KJV)
"1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the LIGHT of men. 5 And the LIGHT shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not."

Lying in bed this morning, I was just meditating about the sun coming up making the plants in the garden to grow. Of course, there must be water (usually rain) applied to those plants for them to survive. I am no horticulturist, but I have been told that plants do their growing at night, out of the sunlight.  But they have to be exposed to the sun light to flourish.

Likewise, humans have to be exposed to SONLIGHT to flourish.  Without the affects of the light of JESUS CHRIST, the world would be "without form, and void" (Genesis 1:2).  Creation is a reflection of the Love of GOD, including mankind, both believers and non-believers.  Just because there are non-believers does not signify these people are mean spirited or hateful. But since GOD is love and they do not have an exposure to GOD, or HIS SON mentioned in John 1:1-5, "the darkness" cannot comprehend HIS LIGHT.  We have to realize that there will always be darkness.  GOD created the Light to shine in the darkness (John 1:5).

A lot of people mistakenly have the impression that people who have been exposed to the "LIGHT" have been charged with making sure the darkness is identified and castigated.  But JESUS said in John 16:7-9 that "Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter (HOLY SPIRIT) will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.  And when he is come, he will reprove (convict) the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:  Of sin, because they believe not on me".

Just like the plants I began this discussion about, the harvest will come one of these days. The plants, and the fruit they produce, will be harvested.  The weeds and "tares" will be left in the darkness as waste.  Rev. Billy Graham said it quite well when he said "It is the Holy Spirit's job to convict, GOD's job to judge and my job to love!"  I am called to love JESUS and others, and let the Holy Spirit handle HIS job!  A "LIGHT" isn't required to do anything but shine in darkness. I just need to make sure I shine for HIM!

"ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE!"

1 Chronicles 16:34                (GNV)
"34 Praise the Lord, for HE is good, for HIS mercy endureth forever."

Early in the morning I usually awake to go to the restroom.  Most mornings I go right back to sleep with no problem.  This morning GOD kept this phrase on my mind, "ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE"!   I wrote it down to make sure I didn't forget it.  But when I awoke again this morning, the same thing was on my mind.

The enemy can keep our MINDS so busy thinking on him and our difficulties that we neglect to worship the ONE true living GOD!   It reminds me of when I was around five years old.  I had a nightmare that someone was breaking into our home.  I cried out to my mother that I was afraid.  She told me to come get in bed with her.  I did and everything was fine.  The nightmare still happened, but the fear dicipated as soon as I was allowed to seek the safety of my caregiver.

JESUS CHRIST came to earth to sacrifice HIMSELF as our caregiver.  HE freely gave of HIMSELF so I could have peace and security that is unexplainable.  Undeservedly, HE also has given me a beautiful, caring wife, two Godly sons with wives who love HIM, and land to live in where I can worship HIM freely, miraculously restored my health like few others, two vehicles, a home to live in, and MANY, MANY other blessings that are too numerous to list on a blog!

How can I allow my mind to consider the minor bumps in my road when there is such beautiful scenery around me?  The "ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE" in a choice we have to make.  I choose to be positive and have an "ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE"!   Each day we must choose to focus on the enemy and his turmoil, or we can have an "ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE" and Praise the LORD for all HIS goodness!

"MANY BELIEVED!"

John 10:22-42          (KJV)
"22 And it was at Jerusalem the feast of the dedication, and it was winter. 23 And Jesus walked in the temple in Solomon’s porch. 24 Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly. 25 Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father’s name, they bear witness of me. 26 But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you. 27 My sheep HEAR MY VOICE, and I KNOW THEM AND THEY FOLLOW ME: 28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. 29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. 30 I and my Father are one. 31 Then THE JEWS took up stones again to stone him. 32 Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me? 33 The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God. 34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods? 35 If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken; 36 Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God? 37 If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not. 38 But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him. 39 Therefore they sought again to take him: BUT HE ESCAPED OUT OF THEIR HAND, 40 And went away again beyond Jordan into the place where John at first baptized; and there he abode. 41 And many resorted unto him, and said, John did no miracle: but all things that John spake of this man were true. 42 And "MANY BELIEVED" on him there."

Many times I have read this verse, and many times it has spoken to me.  JESUS CHRIST physically walked on earth for slightly more than thirty years.  HE had many, some say a multitude of followers, yet was crucified because there was no other redemption for sin.  It was LOVE that caused JESUS to pay for my sins, and the sins for all mankind.

The JEWS wanted to kill JESUS multiple times, and again in John 10.  But in John 10:39 it is recorded "but HE escaped out of their hand"!  JESUS could not be taken, but HE did surrender!  HIS surrendering had everything to do with GOD's timing!  All creation is subject to HIS timing and HE has displayed this many times.  The children of Israel didn't just happen to be on the banks of the Red Sea.......right before the Egyptians were swallowed by the waters.  The Apostle Paul wasn't by chance near Damascus when GOD blinded him.  Damascus was where Ananias lived and it was Ananias who was used to restore Saul's sight.

You may be experiencing a Red Sea moment, or a Damascus road moment, but GOD is still GOD and HE has not lost any of HIS power!  HIS timing had to be complied with when JESUS escaped the Jewish leaders, and when JESUS surrendered to the solders.  And so it is with us.  We may have to face difficulty so GOD can work a miracle in our lives.

John 10:42 is an important verse that many overlook.  "MANY BELIEVED" on HIM there says that GOD can, and does, use difficult situations to display HIS glory in our lives.  Although we may not understand , or enjoy, our "Red Sea Moment", as long as "MANY BELIEVE" it will be worth it as we are serving HIM!

"A PLAIN PATH!"

Psalms 27:7-14                   (KJV)
"7 Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice: HAVE MERCY also upon me, and answer me. 8 When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek. 9 HIDE NOT THY FACE FAR FROM ME; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation. 10 When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up. 11 Teach me thy way, O LORD, and lead me in "A PLAIN PATH," because of mine enemies. 12 Deliver me not over unto the will of mine enemies: for false witnesses are risen up against me, and such as breathe out cruelty. 13 I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. 14 WAIT ON THE LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: WAIT, I SAY, on the LORD."

The direction we take with our lives is not given the forethought it should require.  We get to a crossroad in our life and we think we need to make a decision quickly to avoid an interruption of how things are going.  The sad part is, most of us are in a "fast-lane" mentality and we don't slow our lives down long enough to see the blessings we may be missing out on?

King David was "a man after God's own heart" (1 Samuel 13:14),  King David had many victories in his life.  But he also had his moments of failing to follow The LORD with his actions.  In verse 11 above, David implores The LORD to "teach me thy way" and to "lead me in "A PLAIN PATH".  The 1599 Geneva Bible translates these three words to be "a RIGHT path".  David knew the consequences of missing the will of GOD, and even though the alternatives appeared to be the easiest way out of his difficulty, he wanted to make sure that he was on the RIGHT path.  King David wanted to make sure he was on "A PLAIN PATH" for The LORD.

There is nothing as fulfilling as knowing you and The LORD are walking hand in hand.   Verse 9 above King David requests The LORD to "hide not thy face far from me" and to "leave me not"!  There were those who tried to get David to get ahead of GOD's plan (1 Samuel 24:11), but David waited on GOD's timing and was blessed beyond measure for it.  King David knew that if he waited on "A PLAIN PATH" from The LORD that it would be far better than a path he forged for himself.

The journey we wind up taking in our lives can be like a driver in rush hour traffic in a major city.  Everyone is in a hurry to get somewhere so they can remain being in a hurry!  We try to get on an expressway so we can sit in a traffic jam for hours!   GOD's word is full of instructions to "wait on The LORD"!  We cannot go wrong if we listen to The LORD and follow "A PLAIN PATH" directed by HIM.
