"TOO MANY!"

Judges 7:1-2                  (ESV)
"1 Then Jerubbaal (that is, Gideon) and all the people who were with him rose early and encamped beside the spring of Harod. And the camp of Midian was north of them, by the hill of Moreh, in the valley.
2 The LORD said to Gideon, "The people with you are "TOO MANY" for me to give the Midianites into their hand, lest Israel boast over me, saying, 'My own hand has saved me'."

GOD speaks to us in various ways!  Gideon did not question the leadership of GOD to defeat the Midianites.  Instead Gideon obeyed the directions of GOD and carried only 300 men into battle when there were 32,000 present to fight.  Why would anyone prepare for battle with 300 warriors when they had 32,000 at their disposal?

We seem to forget that nothing is impossible with GOD (Luke 1:37).  GOD could have caused the Midianites to die in their sleep the night before?  GOD could have blinded the Midianites with a dust storm?  GOD could have done a lot of things.  All Gideon knew was GOD told him that all GOD needed for this task was for 300 men to remain in camp.  And Gideon obeyed.

GOD is not interested in promoting a person or their agenda.  GOD knew that HE would not get the glory from the victory of 32,000 over the Midianites, but HE would if only 300 were used to defeat the Midianites.  GOD was not interested in Gideon being successful, rather GOD was moved to be glorified by allowing the obedient servant listen to HIM.

One of my favorite quotes is "We have a GOD who delights in impossibilities".  GOD STILL relishes the opportunity to overcome difficulty for HIS obedient servants.  Sometimes HE may tell me I have "TOO MANY" to accomplish HIS plan?  This is the same GOD who spoke the universes into existence.  For HIM to be glorified, HE doesn't require "TOO MANY" warriors!  HE only needs a few obedient servants!
