“LIGHT!”

1 John 1:5-10                                   (ESV)
“5 This is the message we have heard from HIM and proclaim to you, that GOD IS LIGHT, and in HIM is NO DARKNESS AT ALL.
6 If we say we have fellowship with HIM while we walk in darkness, WE LIE and do not practice the TRUTH.
7 But if we walk in the LIGHT, as HE is in the LIGHT, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of JESUS HIS SON cleanses us from all sin.
8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the TRUTH is not in us.
9 IF WE CONFESS OUR SINS, HE is faithful and just to FORGIVE US our sins and to CLEANSE US from all unrighteousness.
10 If we say we have not sinned, we make HIM a liar, and HIS WORD is not in us.”

When a “LIGHT”, no matter how bright it shines, is placed in a dark room, it has a tremendous impact.  Total darkness disappears when “LIGHT” IS EVIDENT!  Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could live our lives reflecting the “LIGHT”?  The SON OF GOD is the “LIGHT” and we should be mirrors, reflecting HIM wherever we go.  When Moses came down from Mount Sinai, he was illuminated so that Aaron and all those who saw him were “afraid to come near him” (Exodus 34:29-30)!

When we are in the Presence of ALMIGHTY GOD, others can’t help but notice it.  Don’t get puffed up about it though, a mirror only reflects the “LIGHT” that is shining. The mirror has no illuminating abilities, in and of itself.  Just as the moon reflects the “LIGHT” of the SUN, we are only able to reflect the holiness of CHRIST by keeping our mirror clean.  “IF WE CONFESS OUR SINS, HE is faithful and just to FORGIVE US our sins and to CLEANSE US from all unrighteousness” is a Promise of grace that is indescribable!

Make sure that you don’t get so caught up in FORGIVE US portion of this verse that the IF WE CONFESS part is minimized, or worse neglected!  Just as a guilty criminal in a court of law, we ARE GUILTY, and MUST recognize that we are sinful wretches before a HOLY GOD that deserve eternal damnation for our unholiness.  The Apostle Paul said in 1 Timothy 1:15 “The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that CHRIST JESUS came into the world to save sinners, OF WHOM I AM THE FOREMOST”.

We cannot boast when we understand that we are simply mirrors reflecting the “LIGHT” that shines, even when we have filth on our surface.  We don’t have the ability to generate “LIGHT”, only reflect it into darkness.
