“OPEN HIS EYES THAT HE MAY SEE!”

2 Kings 6:15-19                            (ESV)

“15 When the servant of the man of GOD rose early in the morning and went out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was all around the city. And the servant said, "Alas, my master! What shall we do?"

16 He said, "Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them."

17 Then Elisha prayed and said, "O LORD, please “OPEN HIS EYES THAT HE MAY SEE." So the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

18 And when the Syrians came down against him, Elisha prayed to the LORD and said, "Please strike this people with blindness." So he struck them with blindness in accordance with the prayer of Elisha.

19 And Elisha said to them, "This is not the way, and this is not the city. Follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom you seek." And he led them to Samaria.”

While I was formerly a “political junkie”, who quite honestly spent too much of my time blaming others for the bad decisions there party was making, I now am disgusted with the entire hierarchy of both the Republican and Democratic parties, for neither recognize (or at least they don’t act as though they SEE it) that the problems we face today are simply because we don’t identify our enemy!  Ephesians 6:12 (ESV) says “For WE DO NOT WRESTLE AGAINST FLESH AND BLOOD, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the COSMIC POWERS over this PRESENT DARKNESS, against the SPIRITUAL FORCES OF EVIL in the HEAVENLY PLACES.”  

Elisha was a man like few others before or after simply because he lived what he knew, and that was that anything good that he accomplished was from ALMIGHTY GOD!  In 2 Kings 2:9 he replied to Elijah “Ask what I shall do for you, before I am taken from you." And Elisha said, "Please let there be a DOUBLE PORTION of your spirit on me."  Elisha KNEW that his battles were spiritual first, so he didn’t need to be reminded that WE DO NOT WRESTLE AGAINST FLESH AND BLOOD!  

So why can’t I readily SEE the enemy when Scripture tells me what to be looking for?  Instead of blaming others for their perceived deficiencies, why can’t I identity the enemy masquerading as an angel of light and their end will correspond to their deeds (2 Corinthians 11:14-15)!  

Elisha knew that only GOD could “OPEN HIS EYES THAT HE MAY SEE” the Spiritual Warfare going on around him.  It is sad to say, but we are so busy with “busyness” that we don’t SEE that “...those who with are with us are more than those who are with them." (v6). Our battle is not Republican vs. Democrat, conservative vs. liberal, or right vs. left!  We need to earnestly pray that ALMIGHTY GOD will “OPEN HIS (MY) EYES THAT HE MAY SEE” WHO is fighting our battle, and that HE has already won!!!!
