Colossians 3:1-4 (ESV)
Put On the New Self
“[1] IF then you have been raised with CHRIST, SEEK THE THINGS THAT ARE ABOVE, WHERE CHRIST IS, seated at THE RIGHT HAND OF GOD. [2] “SET YOUR MINDS” on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. [3] For (Spiritually) you have died, and your life is hidden with CHRIST in GOD. [4] When CHRIST WHO is your life appears, then you also will appear with HIM in Glory.”
Far too often in our humanity we are BLINDED by a so-called “headline” of modern events which is used by “the enemy” to cause the focus of our attention to NOT be on CHRIST! In the letter to the Colossians written by the Apostle Paul, but inspired by the HOLY SPIRIT, it is PLAINLY written that we should “SET YOUR MINDS” on the things that are above, NOT ON THINGS THAT ARE ON EARTH!
Directly after the Brain Hemorrhage in 2007, i was EXTREMELY single focused, meaning that I found it was almost MANDATED to focus on ONE THING AT A TIME to assure that the item was completed. There are times when I still have problems “multi-tasking” for fear of leaving something “undone”. My brain should not be used as an example though, as a matter of fact, it probably SHOULDN’T be!
However, “SET YOUR MINDS”, or another translation says “Think of things”, “that are above” tells me that I need to INTENTIONALLY direct my thoughts toward things that are HEAVENLY, and NOT ON THINGS THAT ARE ON EARTH! Allowing our thoughts to drift onto the cares of “this world” could be telling us that our focus is NOT on the eternal, but on temporal!?! Won’t it be SAD when we get to Heaven if we are able to SEE the time we spent on temporary things when the eternal was totally ignored???
We NEED to develop a MINDSET (“SET YOUR MINDS”) of SEEKING THINGS THAT ARE ABOVE, WHERE CHRIST IS”!! That is where I want to be, so why do I allow my MIND to be infiltrated by the cares and temptations of “this world”? We MUST “SET YOUR MINDS” on things that are ABOVE, not on where we currently are!!!
