"11 Soon afterward HE went to a town called Nain, and HIS disciples and a great crowd went with HIM.
12 As HE drew near to the gate of the town, behold, a man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow, and a considerable crowd from the town was with her.
13 And when the LORD saw her, HE had compassion on her and said to her, "Do not weep."
14 Then HE came up and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. And HE said, "Young man, I say to you, arise."
15 And the dead man sat up and began to speak, and JESUS gave him to his mother.
16 'Fear seized them all', and "THEY GLORIFIED GOD", saying, "A great prophet has arisen among us!" and "GOD has visited his people!"
17 And this report about HIM spread through the whole of Judea and all the surrounding country."
JESUS performed many miracles while walking among men on earth. In Luke 7:11-17 is a recollection of HIM exhibiting HIS Heavenly authority over life and death. JESUS once again displayed that the limitations of the physical world can be obliterated by the Spiritual World. The key to making this happen is FAITH!
A couple of items that strike interest, in all of the uproar over a persons death there is always anxiety, mourning, and confusion and such in abundance. JESUS didn't make a huge scene or make sure publicity was ample, as do some current media hungry proselyters! HE quietly touched the coffin and the pallbearers paused and HE instructed the young man to "Arise"! The young man sat up and began a conversation.
Another thing of note is "fear seized them ALL"! When the Spirit World intersects with the natural world, FEAR is abundant in the natural man. The natural man can't comprehend Spiritual matters (1 Corinthians 2:14-16) so he fears what he cannot explain. The Spiritual man has the mind of CHRIST and does comprehend the things that are Spiritual. FEAR is not apart of the Christian walk.
The very next phrase is "THEY GLORIFIED GOD"! GOD has been dealing with me recently about how HE "WILL" get glory from us. In Luke 19:40 JESUS tells the Pharisees that if HIS disciples were silent the "very stones would cry out"! In Isaiah 48:11 GOD says "MY glory I will not give to another"! Our very existence is to glorify GOD. We need to live Holy lives to show others HIS magnificence, but rest assured, HE WILL GET HIS GLORY!
Finally, verse 17 says it all...."And this report about HIM spread through the whole of Judea and ALL the surrounding country"! GOD doesn't require mass media to get HIS word out. We are blessed to be used by HIM to share HIS love with those who still live as natural men. Don't be discouraged when they don't comprehend. Only HIS Spirit can change a heart!
