“I IN YOU!”

John 14:10-11; 18-21                                    (ESV)
“10 Do you not believe that I am in the FATHER and the FATHER is in ME? The words that I say to you I do not speak on MY OWN authority, but the FATHER WHO dwells in ME does HIS works.
11 Believe ME that I am in the FATHER and the FATHER is in ME, or else believe on account of the works themselves.

18 "I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.
19 Yet a little while and THE WORLD WILL SEE ME NO MORE, but you will see ME. Because I live, you also will live.
20 In that day you will know that I AM IN MY FATHER, AND YOU IN ME, AND I IN YOU.
21 Whoever has MY COMMANDMENTS AND KEEPS THEM, he it is who loves ME. And he who loves ME will be loved by MY FATHER, and I will love him and manifest MYSELF to him."”

In the above passage of Scripture, JESUS is speaking to HIS disciples in the Upper Room, just before HE is arrested in John 19.  Many times during HIS discourse with the disciples JESUS let’s them know that HE is in the FATHER, and the FATHER is in HIM!  This time JESUS lets them know that we will be in HIM, and “I IN YOU”!

We don’t do a good job of living the “I IN YOU” part of our FAITH however.  We don’t exhibit that JESUS is the ONE WHO created “this world” and everything in it, so HE has the power to control it. In my humanity, I sometimes request things that I would like to SEE happen.  But my ways are not HIS WAYS (Isaiah 55:8-9) so how can I know for certain that I am where I need to be to request things of HIM?

“Whoever has MY COMMANDMENTS AND KEEPS THEM” will display his love for ME, according to HIS WORD.  I’ll be the first to admit that I fail HIM multiple times daily.  Whether through sins of omission or by sins of commission, I often fail to follow what HIS WORD prescribes for my life.   The Apostle Paul says in Romans 7:15-20 that it is sin that dwells in us!  Yes, even though JESUS is my “I IN YOU”, sin is still within me like a cancer trying to kill me.  Although I WANT to eradicate sin in me and live totally for JESUS, I have been assigned the task to Glorify HIM until HE decides that my journey here is complete!

Occasionally I am BLESSED to have my paths cross with a person assigned to me during the Brain Hemorrhage in 2007.  Yesterday was one of those times.  The first person I saw following the 17 day coma was in my office. Recognizing that it has been almost 13 years since then is amazing, humbling, and remarkably divinely orchestrated that GOD.  While discussing the events of that traumatic time, I am convinced that “I IN YOU” was evident at the time, because seemingly everyone was, and continues to be, amazed with my recovery.  When “I IN YOU” is allowed to be displayed in its fullness, people remember it!!!

“I IN YOU” is simply the ONLY WAY to go!!!
