“THEIR EYES!”

Luke 24:13-16; 28-31
“13 That very day two of them (disciples) were going to a village named Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem,
14 and they were talking with each other about all these things that had happened.
15 While they were talking and discussing together, JESUS HIMSELF drew near and went with them.
16 But “THEIR EYES” were kept from recognizing HIM.”

“28 So they drew near to the village to which they were going. He acted as if he were going farther,
29 but they urged HIM strongly, saying, "Stay with us, for it is toward evening and the day is now far spent." So HE went in to stay with them.
30 When HE was at table with them, HE took the bread and blessed and broke it and gave it to them.
31 And “THEIR EYES” were opened, and they recognized him. And HE vanished from their sight.”

Being male, I am blessed/cursed with the “I can’t find it” syndrome that a lot of people have, when one can’t SEE things that are right in front of them.  The disciples written about in Luke 24 evidently were blessed/cursed with the same syndrome, for they walked and conversed with the CREATOR of the universes, the same ONE they witnessed crucified a few days earlier, and they couldn’t SEE HIM!  One can only imagine the frustration of seeing the CREATOR in person and almost not knowing it?  However “THEIR EYES” were kept from SEEing JESUS until “they recognized him. And HE vanished from their sight”!

The video of the sermon delivered by Rev. Voddie Bauchman entitled “Ethnic Gnosticism” has been very “educational” for me?  It seems that the more I listen to it, the more I learn from hearing it again!  The reason for the “quotation marks” is that because unless GOD reveals what is “learned”, our learnings will not change (or impact) our lives....for HIS GLORY!

These disciples were GREATLY IMPACTED by what JESUS was saying to them. Luke 24:32 says in part “...Did not OUR HEARTS BURN WITHIN US while HE  talked to us on the road, while HE OPENED TO US THE SCRIPTURES?"  But please note that JESUS made THEIR HEARTS BURN by simply OPENING THE SCRIPTURES to them!  Their EYES could SEE TRUTH when they were desperately seeking answers.  Jeremiah 29:13 almost immediately comes to mind saying “You will seek ME and find ME, when you seek ME with ALL YOUR HEART.”

When we turn to JESUS for the answers to life’s trials and tribulations WITH ALL OUR HEARTS, HE will respond.  My problem is that I want HIM to answer in a preconceived idea of how I envision the answer should be dealt with?  How can GOD IN FLESH give DIVINE answers to questions with something that is limited by the earthly constructs of the human mind?  Only when HE opens “THEIR EYES” were the disciples able to SEE HIM.  And only when HE opens “OUR EYES” will we be able to SEE Heavenly answers for the issues we face!  BUT, we have to SEEK HIM WITH ALL OUR HEARTS FIRST!!!
