“THAT WE MIGHT UNDERSTAND!”

 1 Corinthians 2:9-16                      (ESV)

“[9] But, as it is written, 

    “What NO EYE HAS SEEN, NOR EAR HEARD,

        NOR THE HEART OF MAN IMAGINED,

    what GOD has prepared for those who love HIM”—

    [10] these things GOD has revealed to us through the SPIRIT. For the SPIRIT SEARCHES EVERYTHING, EVEN THE DEPTHS OF GOD. [11] For who knows a person’s thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also NO ONE comprehends the THOUGHTS of GOD except the SPIRIT of GOD. [12] Now we have received NOT the spirit of the world, but the SPIRIT WHO IS FROM who is from GOD, “THAT WE MIGHT UNDERSTAND” the things FREELY given us by GOD. [13] And we impart this in words NOT TAUGHT BY HUMAN WISDOM but TAUGHT BY THE SPIRIT, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual.

[14] The natural person does not accept the things of the SPIRIT OF GOD, for they are folly (foolishness) to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are SPIRITUALLY discerned. [15] The spiritual person judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one. [16] “For who has understood the mind of the LORD so as to instruct him?” BUT WE HAVE THE MIND OF CHRIST.”

Probably one of the most referred to passages of Scripture that I use is above.  Often it is my desire to share TRUTH from THE WORD, yet unless a person’s EYES are OPENED to SEE TRUTH, they CANNOT “calculate” SPIRITUAL matters, it will NOT “add up” for them.  But just because our EYES are OPENED and we can SEE TRUTH doesn’t mean that we are able to SEE everything at one time?  

In verse 9 above it plainly states “What NO EYE HAS SEEN, NOR EAR HEARD, NOR THE HEART OF MAN IMAGINED, what GOD has prepared for those who love HIM”, letting us know that we are incapable of measuring the riches of GOD with our finite minds!  GOD reveals certain things to those who are CHOSEN to GLORIFY HIS NAME with the knowledge HE gives them. Far too often in our humanity we try to fit what we desire into HIS HOLY PLAN, causing scheduling conflicts with THE CREATOR??

Just because we don’t get what we want in life doesn’t indicate that we are “out of GOD’S WILL”!  We might be being prepared for the Red Sea to open and GOD wants us to WAIT ON HIM???  We are simply humans compared to an OMNIPOTENT HOLY GOD!  We cannot expect to get everything “our way”, for we DON’T KNOW what is best for us!  THE CREATOR has a PLAN and PURPOSE for us, and we MUST realize that!

We are GOD’S creation, not THE CREATOR!  There are times “THAT WE MIGHT UNDERSTAND” is an uncomfortable experience.  Understanding that we are here to GLORIFY HIM and not ourselves is a humbling, yet AWESOME experience!  As I/we SPIRITUALLY mature may GOD OPEN our EYES so “THAT WE MIGHT UNDERSTAND” who we are in HIS PLAN!!!
