"SON OF GOD!"

Matthew 8:28-34                            (ESV)
"28 And when HE came to the other side, to the country of the Gadarenes, two demon-possessed men met HIM, coming out of the tombs, SO FIERCE that no one could pass that way.
29 And behold, they cried out, "What have YOU to do with us, O "SON OF GOD"? Have YOU come here to torment us before the time?"
30 Now a herd of many pigs was feeding at some distance from them.
31 And the demons begged HIM, saying, "If YOU cast us out, send us away into the herd of pigs."
32 And HE said to them, "Go." So they came out and went into the pigs, and behold, the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea and drowned in the waters.
33 The herdsmen fled, and going into the city they told everything, especially what had happened to the demon-possessed men.
34 And behold, all the city came out to meet JESUS, and when they saw him, they begged HIM to leave their region."



The Sunday School Class I attend is studying through the book of Matthew, and recently the above text was what the lesson was taken from.  It is somewhat astonishing to me that "this world", and its evil inhabitants, readily recognize and admit that JESUS is the "SON OF GOD"!  Then you have have those who claim that all of this Spiritual stuff is just for weaklings, weaklings who are searching for answers for questions that don't exist!  But in 1 Corinthians 2:14 the Apostle Paul was used to write "The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of GOD, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned"!

These two demon-possessed men were not weaklings in the spiritual realm.  They were SO FIERCE that no man could their way.  But they saw, AND KNEW JESUS, as the "SON OF GOD" before JESUS ever got to them.  JESUS didn't open a great dialogue with the demons, HE let them do all the talking.  When they literally "begged" to be sent into a herd of pigs, HE simply said "Go"!

The Spirit of HIM WHO raised JESUS from the dead now lives in me (Romans 8:11), and since HE lives in me there should be NO FEAR of the enemy!  All JESUS did to exorcise the demons from these men was to say "Go"!  HE didn't perform some majestic ceremony and glorify HIMSELF before men!  HE forever glorified the FATHER, and in turn,the FATHER glorified HIS SON (John 17:4-5)!

JESUS said in John 14:1 "Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in GOD; BELIEVE also in ME".  All we have to do is simply BELIEVE that HE is the "SON OF GOD"!  There are plenty of excuses not to BELIEVE, but the risk of not BELIEVING cannot compare to the reward for what lies ahead for those of us who do BELIEVE in the "SON OF GOD"!  The demon-possessed men coming out of the tombs KNEW WHO JESUS was?  Unless you desire to spend an eternity with them in hades, you too will BELIEVE in the "SON OF GOD"!!!
