Exodus 14:21-22 (ESV)
“[21] Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and “THE LORD” drove the sea back by a strong east wind all night and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. [22] And the people of Israel went into the midst of the sea on dry ground, the waters being a wall to them on their right hand and on their left.”
Exodus 14:27-28 (ESV)
“[27] So Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to its normal course when the morning appeared. And as the Egyptians fled into it, “THE LORD” threw the Egyptians into the midst of the sea. [28] The waters returned and covered the chariots and the horsemen; of all the host of Pharaoh that had followed them into the sea, not one of them remained.”
Just a few observations from these verses today. “Moses stretched out his hand over the sea” wasn’t a powerful wave or hand gesture. He wasn’t gifted with eloquent words or words. In fact, he stuttered so badly he had to have his brother Aaron (Exodus 4:10-31) go with him to see Pharaoh because of his insecurities.
It wasn’t the FAITH of the Children of Israel that GOD rewarded at the Red Sea. They “feared greatly” and” cried out to the LORD” in Exodus 14:10. The only reason they obeyed GOD was THE CLOUD that was leading them “day and night” led precisely where GOD needed them to be when the Egyptians believed that the Children of Israel were entrapped.
Even Pharaoh and the Egyptian Army were at the mercy of ALMIGHTY GOD. Several times GOD “hardened” Pharaohs heart, leading Pharaoh to take a path that wasn’t always for his good. Pharaoh, like the Children of Israel, knew there was a GOD, but no one truly understood GOD OMNIPOTENT POWER, HIS matchless might, and HIS ability to work ALL THINGS for HIS GLORY!
We have the Scriptures to guide us in our lives, yet we aren’t familiar enough with THEM to know what we should do in the pressure times when they arise. “THE LORD” parted the Red Sea for the Children of Israel, and “THE LORD” caused the same waters to engulf the Egyptians! We are instructed to PRAISE “THE LORD” in good times and bad (Philippians 4:4-5). GOD could be leading us to a Red Sea so that HE will get GLORY over our Pharaoh! We need to TRUST that “THE LORD” is in control!!!
