"GOD IS NOT MOCKED!"

Galatians 6:6-10                                  (ESV)
"6 Let the one who is taught the WORD share all good things with the one who teaches.
7 Do not be deceived: "GOD IS NOT MOCKED", for whatever one sows, that will he also reap.
8 For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.
9 And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.
10 So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith."

Many times I have recollected about my upbringing and learning from my maternal grandfather.  He forgot more about raising crops, the planting season, the nurturing season, and the harvest season, than I will ever be able to know.  He had a fifth grade education and limited reading and writing skills, but he taught me more than any teacher could ever hope to, not only about gardening, but about life in general.  Galatians 6:6 reminds me of him when it speaks of me sharing with the "one who teaches" as I learned more from his living example than I could ever learn in a classroom!

Like I said, "Grandpa" never read real proficiently so he didn't read his Bible a lot, but he lived Scripture without memorizing the verses!  He planted corn and he reaped corn.  He planted potatoes and reaped potatoes.  He didn't plant okra and wait to see if squash came up.  Nor did he plant watermelon and wait for cantaloupe to sprout.  That would have violated the laws of nature.  He was, however, quite gifted at growing a garden, but he knew what he was doing also.

Laws of nature are something that RARELY make an exception, but laws of GOD are NEVER compromised!  Galatians 6:7 is very plain when it says "Do not be deceived: "GOD IS NOT MOCKED", for whatever one sows, that will he also reap"!  You can't sow seeds that are ungodly and reflect a worldly lifestyle and then pray for crop failure!  While it is true GOD is longsuffering and extremely gracious, HE will judge our deeds one day!  Romans 14:12 says "So then each of us will give an account of himself to GOD".  The forgotten GOOD things we have done, but more ashamedly, the forgotten BAD we have done, will have to be accounted for!

Just because we don't reap immediate results from the seeds we plant, rest assured those seeds WILL germinate and the fruit WILL come forth!  "GOD IS NOT MOCKED" is not just an empty promise, it is saying to us that what we plant will one day sprout like a planted seed and we better prepare for the harvest!  Have you planted, and are you planting, wisely?
