“YOU CANNOT SERVE GOD AND MONEY!”

 

Matthew 6:24                    (ESV)

“[24] “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. “YOU CANNOT SERVE GOD AND MONEY””.

Briefly, the writings from yesterday were on Matthew 6:22-23 and quite lengthy.  Today I am unable to get past Matthew 6:24 without addressing an issue that a lot of people refuse to delve into, “YOU CANNOT SERVE GOD AND MONEY”!  

Looking at various other Bible translations of this verse, the word SERVE is also translated DEVOTED.  When my Brain Damaged mind thinks of DEVOTED, it quickly sees a faithful spouse who is willing to do anything possible to provide for the one GOD HAS GIVEN THEM!  They LOVE their spouse, so the desires of their spouse are paramount to them.  Loving another wouldn’t be something that would be allowed!!!

Although the one GOD chose for me is almost PERFECT according to some, we ALL have our imperfections that are magnified at times.  The CREATOR, on the other hand, is without flaws.  HE is NOT LACKING in HIS abilities.  But HE commands us to NOT be diluted with anything or anyone else!  “YOU CANNOT SERVE GOD AND MONEY” is saying that we shouldn’t be placing ANYONE or ANYTHING on the same level as our CREATOR!  What occupies the THRONE ROOM in your life?  “YOU CANNOT SERVE GOD AND MONEY”!!!
