"WHO AM I?"

1 Chronicles 29:10-14               (KJV)
"10 Wherefore David blessed the LORD before all the congregation: and David said, Blessed be thou, LORD God of Israel our father, for ever and ever.
11 Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all.
12 Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all.
13 Now therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name.
14 But "WHO AM I", and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? for all things come of thee, and of thine own have we given thee."

Back when I a bit younger I used to try to sing publically!  I had some people who really liked my singing, and some were so moved they never came back to hear me again!!!  One of my favorite songs was written by Rusty Goodman named "WHO AM I".  Rusty Goodman sang the song a lot better than I, but I gave it my best!  I never thought of myself as a good singer, but I was giving my voice as an offering to The LORD, and all I could give HIM was my best!

King David says it quite succinctly in 1 Chronicles. King David was highly regarded as a Mighty Warrior, since as a lad he was used to slay Goliath.  A young man, who seemingly had no great qualities to offer, submitted his best to The LORD and GOD blessed his efforts.

King David realized WHO the blessings in his life came from.  The English Standard Version of 1 Chronicles 29:14 says "But WHO AM I, and what is my people, that we should be able thus to offer willingly? For all things come from you, and OF YOUR OWN HAVE WE GIVEN YOU."  We can only give to GOD what HE has given us!  It is a true statement that "You can't give what you don't have"!

Perhaps I don't give as much as I would like because I haven't been entrusted with the blessings required for me to give?  GOD alone determines what we give to HIM.  The things we give to others in need, we are really giving to The LORD!!!  It ALL belongs to HIM anyway, as we will only be here for a short time (James 4:14).  Then all of our belongings will be handed to someone else.

"WHO AM I" that HE should entrust me with another breath?  "WHO AM I" that HE offers me eternal life through HIS SON JESUS CHRIST?  All we can give HIM is what HE has first given to us.  HE deserves our best, and HE will get my best, for "WHO AM I" to withhold HIS blessings from HIM???
