"For we walk by faith, not by sight"
It is such a short verse. You would think its meaning would be so "limited" or "defined". But, as it usually happens in my life, GOD displays the inadequacies in such a quiet, controlled manner with such a CLEAR TONE ! It is as if GOD is saying "I had this in my control all along"!
I recently was driving my SUV and the "LOW COOLANT" light came on. I was not overly alarmed, as the vehicle has almost 300,000 miles on it and things are going to happen. I continued to drive toward my house, about 8 miles.
A minute or so later, the orange "LOW COOLANT" light was replaced with a flashing red "ENGINE OVER-HEAT" light! I tried to pull over at a friends house (who was not at home) and use his water hose but I could not connect his hose to the faucet.
I started trying to make it on toward my house. The HEAT GUAGE was moving as far as it could go.....UP! The red "ENGINE OVER-HEAT" light continued to flash at me! I was unsure if I was going to be able to make it home.
I will let you know, I DID make it home and my radiator has a leak that will have to be repaired. But the lesson learned is not something I will soon forget. We "walk by faith" means each moment of each day, step by step, we trust GOD to direct our paths. When we "WALK" by faith, our next step may be in a totally different direction. How we respond to adversity we incur may demonstrate to others how strong our faith is in HIM!
Suppose the engine on my SUV had succumbed to the loss of water and I had been stranded? Suppose I had been helped by a passerby who did not know JESUS, and through our meeting, his life was eternally changed? Suppose his life was used to change thousands of lives for the Kingdom?
GOD has a plan! I do not know what "THE PLAN" holds for my life. I may be stranded on Interstate today or I may be in an air-conditioned office. I know how it feels NOT to be able to walk and talk, yet I know how it feels to be restored! In Philippians 4:12-13 the Apostle Paul says "I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."
LORD IN HEAVEN, I surrender my life to YOU to live in a way that glorifies YOUR NAME! Cause me to respond to adversity AND blessings with a demeanor that reflects YOU living in me!
